Is this ham stock?

I boiled a gammon ham. Is the gloppy water it was in now ham stock, or a vile salty broth of chemicals? I feel I need direction...

Yes, it's ham stock. Depending on your gammon it may still be quite salty. Did you soak it before cooking the ham? Give it a taste and see how it is. If it's really salty, try cooking a couple of large peeled potatoes on it to absorb some of the salt... Smile

Thank you! Chucked a pan of water once it reached the boil and this lot was fresh, so hopefully not too salty.

I always chuck it. I don't think it has much flavour beyond the salt and it can be quite greasy Confused

I use it for bean or lentil soups mainly, but it does help a butternut squash risotto along nicely... Smile Smile
