...buy and eat hamburgers from a car boot sale. DH went off to wander round one yesterday and came back announcing he had "bought lunch". And there they were - eight beefburgers for £1.50 from the "Meat Van".

Have to say I was horrified and envisioned mechanically recovered meat and toenails etc. Looked at hubby's proud face and decided to remain silent (this time). He barbecued them and they were okay. Have banned him from buying them again though. Am I being silly?

If you had put your ear to those burgers and listened carefully they would have said

"EEEEEEEEEEEE-OOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRR"

Donkey burgers. Donkeys' lips n 'sholes. You get what you pay for.

You didn't eat them yourself did you?

yes. but i'm a rather adventurous eater who's probably not the best person to advise on such matters, as i once contracted hepatitis A after eating off a street vendor in Venezuela.

i do still eat off street vendors, however.

Thanks girls. Trying not to think of Donkeyburgers. Am giggling now - and yes - am still alive. Bless him - he was so proud too.

Apparently they were selling 20 sausages for £2 and a box of 20 Boursan cheese packets for £5. Hubby was apparently tempted by this until the vendor informed him that they were "out of date - they're alright though"!....and then DH buys "beef"burgers from him.

Men!

And yet I probably wouldn't have thought twice about doing that before having children. Adventurousness and all that. But now - no!

I wouldn't eat them,even if you paid me ooooooh,a £100.

My friend (very kindly) made me a bap with a weird turkey roll and coleslaw on it the other day,.
I have no idea how I kept it down.

i'd deffo have eaten them. i've eaten stuff that i still am not sure what it was exactly.

a drink made from yak butter in nepal had to be the worst tastewise, however.

or soup that still had animal hairs in it.

sllluurrrppp

But yak butter from a healthy yak is usual in Nepal, and wholly fit for human consumption. At that price, aragon's burgers were probably condemend meat from a pet food plant or something.

There is a big public health investigation going on in the borough I live in because of condemned meat being brought from E Europe and sold in independent butchers. It's a huge problem, there is tons of the stuff, some dangerous. (Atlantic Rd - for those who know where I live. Not ordinary reputable neighbourhood independent butchers).
Bin it, Aragon.

Report
aragon · 17/07/2006 15:03

Was planning to bin it anyway this evening. He's on strict instructions not to feed it to DS - and I don't think DS would eat it in any case. Oh it's all scary. Still cannot believe that he bought it - believe me if I had been there it would have stayed in the meat van.
