I need soupy inspiration. I've just made Lentil and bacon for lunch. Love Pea and mint, chicken and vegetable etc but need some ideas. Maybe something with butternut squash as I have one in the fridge? What are your top three favourites to make please?

Corn/ sweet potato chowder with smoked fish if it's there. Lots of fresh herbs and lime/lemon juice when you serve.

Daal with any leftover veg. Again, any fresh herbs/lime AND chili

This is a great one for Butternut Squash
This is the other top favourite in our house- I use a tin of tomatoes instead of the fresh ones and use half the amount of spinach http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/pork-recipes/scrumptious-spanish-chickpea-and-chorizo-soup Chorizo and Chick Pea soup

  1. Brown lentil, lemon and kale.
  2. Red lentil/daal
  3. WIC/WIF (whats in cupboard, whats in fridge, which is a city variation of my SM's famous WIG/WIF - whats in garden, whats in fridge). This usually ends up being noodles/broth/veg

Leek and potato:
Simmer potatoes and leeks in just enough water and some butter, then blend with some stock. The potato makes it lovely and thick.

Spicy chicken noodle:
Shred some roast chicken and simmer in lots of water with tinned sweetcorn, shredded dark cabbage/leek, finely chopped chilli. At the last minute put rice noodles in.

Sweet potato and roast vegetable:
Roast chunks of sweet potato, red pepper and red onion in the oven with a splash of oil. Blend when done.

Thanks for this thread, haven't done soup for ages (DCs don't like it :() but am in the mood now so will add ingredients to next shopping list for warming lunches when the fussy monkeys DCs are at school! :)
