Full jar of wholegrain mustard about to go out of date - what can I use it to make?

It's wholegrain mustard with chilli. It's been in my cupboard for yonks and I just noticed it when I was looking for something. It goes out of date at the end of this month...

Has anyone got any ideas what I can use it to make? I'd have to use all or most of it, so was thinking a recipe as opposed to on ham sandwiches!

It'll be fine long after the date on the jar.

Chicken in a mustard and honey sauce is nice.

I would say it will be fine for a while yet, if something has a long date to start with then it doesn't go off the very day it says best before on the jar! So personally, I would ignore the date and just eat it normally.

Nigel Slater does a nice dish of sausages roasted in honey and mustard.

Blimey, I'd say you have another year to use it up, possibly two Grin

It'll be fine for a while longer. But wholegrain mustard in cauliflower cheese is yummy (I do realise though that you'd have to make a lot of cauliflower cheese to use the full jar up!).

That stuff never goes out of date, I have some that's ancient and it's still good.

Isn't it a best before rather than use by on jars and tins? So it won't immediately be unuseable at the end of the month, but the quality will deteriorate slowly after that date. Still got lots of like left in it I'm sure; just use a couple of spoonfuls to pep up anything you make and it'll soon be gone!

Delia has a great recipe for pork and mustard stroganoff in her website.

Mix it with mayonnaise and use in potato salad, or delicious served in a steak sandwich, mix with creme fraiche and add to pan fried pork chops and pan fried apple slices, you could substitute turkey steaks, make up a few batches of honey and mustard vinaigrette and keep in the fridge or give away as gifts.
But as others have said it won't go off, rather it will lose it's strength and flavour.

Wow thanks for all the replies - I wasn't suggesting that it's going to suddenly go off when we get to Aug 1st Grin but just that it's obviously been in the cupboard so long that it's getting close to the date (haven't checked if it's UB or BB actually) and just want to get it used up tbh.

I am liking the sausages and honey recipe idea swish - I am going to look that one up.

I like to sear a joint of sirloin of beef and then smear it with a mixture of wholegrain and English mustard and horseradish.

Put in a hot oven until cooked to your liking and It's bloody gorgeous!
