I'm having friends round and cooking a roast on Sunday, my speciality is gammon but I'm doing chicken instead. My roasts usually involve: Roast potatoes (obviously) Roast parsnips Suede and carrot mash Red cabbage (the prepared stuff that you microwave ) Peas/Broccoli Gravy
This is what I like, so it's what I cook, but MIL is very traditional and does: Roast meat - offered with the official sauce mint/cranberry etc Roast potatoes Parsnips sometimes (is there a rule what meat you have them with?) Stuffing sometimes (as above, is there a rule?) Yorkshire puddings - only with Beef Broccoli Cauliflower Peas Gravy
Something green, something roasted from below the ground, kids have potatoes sometimes boiled sometimes roasted. Often marinate the meat, often wine, sometimes gravy - always made with meat juices and not Bisto. We have no traditions with roast other than we rarely have it the same way.
