Do I want a Magimix or a Kenwood...or something else?

Ever since someone bought me the Jamie 30 minute meals book, I have needed a food processor Grin Quite a few of the recipes have become family favourites but they take way longer than 30 minutes when I'm left doing all the fiddly chopping and blending by hand.

Recently, I won a load of vouchers (thanks MNHQ) so I can finally treat myself but I'm a bit overawed by all the choices!

I think what I want is 4200XL but it's a lot of money and I'm panicking that I should be choosing something else instead.

Help me choose MN!

I've already got a KitchenAid Classic so I don't need a food processor that does cakes and I have a Braun Multiquick too for doing soups and small amounts of chopping. Also, MIL bought me us a Kmix hand mixer last Christmas.

According to 30 min meals, I need a Food processor with a standard blade, thick and think slicer discs, fine and coarse graters, a whisk and beater. We are a family of 4 but I do like batch cooking and cooking for friends too so I'm often making larger amounts.

Would a Kenwood be better? I know I'm probably overthinking it but money like this to spoil myself comes up once in a blue moon round here and I'd hate to buy one and then spot the thing I should have bought a week later.

Well, being as it seems to be just me and you discussing it, that might be the way I go stealth :)

Been pouring over this

IIRC, it's the more powerful (and generally better) motor that you are mostly paying for in the 4200. Which is definitely worth it. I will double check the model on ours later.

What about attachments for the kitchen aid instead? I do all my grating and chopping with that. My food professor has never been out of the box.

I've just bought a Magimix. Had the same reservations as you but I am bowled over with how good it is. Don't think you would regret it.

I didn't know there was a grating attachment for the KitchenAid! I'll have to look those up.

The last thing I got for it was the silicone edged flat beater which is really good. No more scraping down.

Which MagiMix did you get viewofthehills?

It looks like the slicing/grating attachments for the KitchenAid are made for the Artisan models. I've only got a Classic.

Back to the MagiMixes.. :)

Blathers I have just checked ours - it's actually a 5100.

I think the 4200XL might be the limit of my budget. The 5200's as they are now are another £100 or so.

Debenhams have the 4200XL reduced from £290 to £261 at the moment.

I may have reserved one for store pick up tomorrow Grin

Well almost. I still have to not lose my nerve between now and picking it up tomorrow - probably with a grumpy DD in tow!

It's also 261 at amazon. So tempted but would prefer a red kitchen aid.

I've got Love2Shop vouchers though baking so I'm restricted in where I can go shopping.

You need a KitchenAid Artisan if you want colours.

Another for Magimix. (And we have a KitchenAid as well).

Fingers crossed DD will be all better and susceptible to bribery up for a jaunt into town tomorrow.

The magimix 4000 is 221 at amazon. Is the 4000xl much much better?

I can't spend my vouchers on Amazon Sad

I've got it! I've got some cakes to ice but hoping to have a play later :)

I finally managed to have a play today. I made spag bol and grated the onions (not fun when I've also got conjunctivitis - ouch!), plus carrots, celery and courgettes to bulk out the mince. Then I used the slicing blades to cut up some mushrooms and peppers too.

It was so quick - the veg took seconds when it usually takes me a good 20 minutes of chopping and grating - and it was so easy! Even cleaning it was a breeze as it all just rinsed clean.

Very pleased

Had to report back.... I've managed to make 2/3rds of a Jamie's 30 minute meal in 20 minutes tonight thanks to the Magimix Grin

It usually takes me more like 45 minutes
