What do you eat every week / regularly?(48 Posts)
Looking for inspiration really and to pinch ideas
I meal plan every week but seem to end up relying on the same old things most weeks. Namely:
roast chicken (or sometimes other roast)
leftovers next day, usually stir fry/curry/ casserole/risotto type thing
veg pasta & salad - mushroom/courgette/pepper/toms type combo
jkt pot & salad - various fillings
fish with pots & veg (sometimes fillets, sometimes home made fishfingers, sometimes fish pie...)
mince or sausage based dish (bolognese, shep pie, cott pie, saus cass, saus with rice...)
something else usually another fish thing...
Fed up cooking / meal planning / eating it all. Sometimes I'd much rather have a bowl of cereal. I make a big pot of soup most weeks which i freeze in portions and have for lunch, so there's usually a few varieties in freezer of that.
Any suggestions for straight-forward evening meals gratefully received.
this week we're having:
chicken, bacon and leek pie with broccoli
goats cheese, tomato and rocket risotto
chickpea, red pepper and chorizo stew twice - once with rice, once with pittas
jacket potatoes, tuna, sweetcorn, coleslaw, salad,
fish fingers, spaghetti hoops and chips
fish pie, carrots and peas
when i make the pies i make one for the freezer as well. we always have Shite Frozen Orangey Breadcrumb Stuff on a Thursday, as it's our busiest night, and I always do at least one one-pot dish where I can double up and serve it the following night as well.
Tonight we had baked salmon, steamed broccoli with butter and cherry tomatoes. Sounds boring but one of my favourite dinners.
Other regulars -
Veg stir fry with noodles
Roast chicken with baby corn, broccoli and wedges
Pasta with (a jar of...) tomato & mascarpone sauce
Salmon with brown rice and veg
Tuna pasta bake
Anything tomato-y is a hit with me!
Xmasbaby would love the salmon broth recipe.
I went for the 3 packs of meat for a £10 from the butcher, so this week we are having
*Pasta with roasted aubergine pesto stirred through (yum) served with sweetcorn and sprinkled with crispy bacon pieces
*fajitas made with chicken and beef strips (1/2 of the pack of chicken)
*Homemade chicken nuggets with the rest of the chicken, with potato and sweet potato wedges
*Jacket potatoes with tuna mayo
*a freezer meal - probably fishcakes with bread and butter and peas
*tea out one night as it's a school holiday
*roast dinner at the weekend (usually Saturday as our Sunday's are busy!)
Boring Simple food.
I don't menu plan and have to do lunches too as at home with 20 month old. Lunch is often poached /scrambled egg /baked salmon with broccoli &boiled potatoes, nothing exciting.
Nearly always have a roast chicken as I like slow cooking the carcasd for stock.
We'll then have a soup eg sweet potato with a bit of ginger in, or dahl with chorizo.
Then perhaps rice pasta with pesto (I aim for vegetarian about twice a week &we have to be gluten and dairy free for DD, DS and I)
Nitrate-free Sausages with homemade chips in goose fat
Egg fried rice with spring onion and lots of parsley
Baked salmon with a blended tomato &onion sauce
Rice noodles with beansprouts and crispy seabass and Thai chilli sauce
For puddings it's usually fruit , homemade sponge cake made with olive oil and GF flour (actually popular, and sounds horrible!)
I absolutely crave macaroni cheese and anything else extra cheesy cheese raclette. And a normal sandwich with baguette, avocado, ham, mayonnaise... (Not same on GF bread!)
Roast chicken today so risotto tomorrow with leftover chicken, peas and mint.
Tuesday will be risotto patties which my dds love (made with leftover risotto) served with a poached egg on top and salad.
Can we make this one of those threads that keeps bumping?
Roast lamb today (change of plan)
halloumi with veggy cous cous
mozzarella and tomato pasta bake
burgers (I just cut up the slab of mince into 4, fry and stuff into toasted pitta)
chorizo, chickpea and butterbean stew
lentil and bacon stew
pearl barley with veg and left over roast chicken
leek and cheese risotto
gnocchi with blue cheese cream and spinach
pasta with smoked mackerel, peas and cream
grilled chicken wings
ThePavaloviancat - I would love thst mango recipe
I two a two week meal plan, mostly cook from scratch. things that we eat regularly are
Tagliatelle with creme fraiche, smoked salmon and frozen peas
Paprika chicken with patatas bravas
Tuna pasta bake
Salmon and broccoli pasta
Jackets with various toppings
Soup and pudding night
Toad in the hole
Southern baked chicken and wedges with coleslaw
Pasta with pesto, leftover roast chicken and cherry toms
Fish fillets with ratatouille
I'm on a strict budget, so most of our meals are fairly cheap
I hate routine, but in reality we probably eat similar foods, but not every week. I used to work with a much older guy who used to have the same thing on a given day if the week, eg its Tuesday, it must be chops! This would make me want to die.
So, here are the foods we eat regularly, prob each month:
- fish pie
- roast chicken
- high tea sandwiches crudités etc
- chicken curry
- toad in the hole
- pasta, many varieties incl bolognese
- fish and chips or jackets
- jacket potato with fillings
- hot roast beef baguettes with onions and salad
- eggs - omelettes, dippy
- Parmesan chicken
Less regularly we will have burgers or beef in red wine. In the summer we eat more salad and cold stuff, or a whole fish.
Mon - Sausage and bean casserole with mash
Tue - Chinese pork and noodles (recipe is a MN one)
Wed - Beef in Guinness with mash and green beans
Thurs - Chicken breasts wrapped with bacon, marinated in bbq sauce and topped with grated cheese served with home made wedgies and peas
Friday - fish pie
Tonight - meatballs and pasta
Sunday - roast pork
I also do quiches, curries, chillis, the gammon and brown sugar recipe,

'no spag bol' bolognese without the spag
tuna mayo and roasted veg
low carb tapas if dh is working late and i cba cooking. this would include cheesy nachos and chili pickles, celeriac chips, cheesy cauli
chicken pie - with cauli mash topping
breaded chicken goujons and celeriac chips ( chicken n chips )
Oops! Overenthusiastic thumb
...Rice is lovely stir fried with bacon, leek and peppers, especially if you add pine nuts (a rare treat due to price)
We also used to do a rice stew thing - basically make a very juicy (ie lots of extra chopped tomato) ratatouille type sauce and then cook the rice in it slowly.
Today we had a really filling salad - kind of a nicoise although we don't eat olives. Boiled egg, green beans, boiled potato, tuna, salad veg, avocado. You don't even need dressing as the avocado adds a creaminess once you toss it all together.
Chicken thighs, chopped chorizo, cubed potato (can do sweet potato too), red onion, red pepper. Spread on a tray, roast in oven. Gorgeous. Learnt it on MN!
Baked sweet potato is absolutely amazing with cubes of feta and chopped spring onion.
We have tacos/nachos/fajitas/quesadillas a lot.
Rice is lovely stir fried with bacon, leek and peppers, especially if you add
chicken: chicken and leek pie with spring greens and mash, chicken and chorizo with peppers in tomato sauce and rice, Thai chicken curry with green beans and spinach and rice
mince: lasagna (made weekend then have again in week), spag bol / chilli con carne
fish: crispy baked salmon with spicy puy lentils, wilted spinach and rice, or Asian style noodle broth with beansprouts and mange tout, fish pie with garlic green beans
fresh pasta (bought) with vegetables and cheese/tomato/pesto and creme fraiche sauce
pork fillet with peppers, paprika, port and creme fraiche with rice / potatoes
risotto with smoked salmon scraps, peas and spinach
Bump. To feed my addiction, sorry
It's a rare week in Casa Wordfactory without a roast chicken dinner and a chilli con carne.
These seem non negotiable amongst the troops!
I'm trying to ring the changes the other nights though.
Recently have used this recipe - it would never of occurred to me to use chicken soup before!
But prior to that use white wine/cream/butter/light Philadelphia and thickened with a little flour.
Can't beat a good pie - and life's to short to make pastry yourself i feel!!
Risotto with whatever meat and veg I have ... Bacon and scallop is divine!
Meat and 2 veg
Home made crispy chicken - coated in red pesto and couscous
