Leave it to cook with the lid up for a while. As it cooks, it will shrink slightly and you should then be able to push the lid down properly

I would probably risk locking it to be honest, I can't see what would happen.

If you don't want to, then you can snip into the spine with scissors, that will let the body collapse a bit.

Squish it down. Press really hard on the back bone and it should give.

If press it in and break its bones a bit like oreocrumbs suggests. You could always cut the legs off I'd portion it up otherwise.

Can you break the bones and make it collapse a bit?

Not sure about locking the lid on - my slow cooker doesn't have any way to do that.

There is a hole in the lid so I can't see how it could explode or anything as it won't be sealed.
