Brie unopened from Christmas, 10 days 'out of date'. Use or not?

I've just remembered it lurking at the back of the fridge. Oh dear...Say 3 Jan on it.

I notice in France they give chees a much longer eat by date.

If purchased in the UK, it should be nearly good enough to eat by now. French-bought brie tends to be a little riper even on the shelf but even then I'd eat 1 week "post-dates". Probably a month or two tbh.

Why would they put apricots in Brie?

Is it full size wheel? I'd cut it into quarters and inspect it for green mould. If it's ok, then freeze 3 quarters and eat the remaining quarter now.

If it looks ok and smells ok then eat it! Sell by dates are absolutely pointless on cheese. I sell waxed cheeses, with 2-3 months sell by dates, which in actuality will still be completely edible in 2 YEARS time. Soft cheeses will ripen, and will eventually go beyond what most people would eat, but this will be WELL BEYOND the date on the packet!
The only thing I would say is that having fruit in, the fruit might well begin fermenting, and make the cheese taste boozy. We have this problem with the cheddars and wensleydales with cranberries and apricots in. In that case, I would recommend binning.

I am still working my way through my Christmas cheese. I have some Brie, which was well and truly ripe at Christmas time - it's the type with a plastic guard around it to keep it all from oozing all over the place, when you open it.

Pretty sure it'll do irreparable damage to your digestive system. They put those dates on for a reason. After the date the food becomes a health hazard. It really needs to be disposed of safely... I can help with that!

Ooh thanks for all replies We still didn't get the chance to eat it after all yesterday so it's continuing to ferment.

Apricots in Brie? Thats a new one on me.

If it was normal unadulterated brie I would say don't eat it... leave it for at least another 10 days and it should be just about edible

I know it's a bit weird re apricots (they're on the top).

It was a posh one from Sainsbury's for Christmas which is why I'm esp loathe to waste it.

Get it out of the fridge and let it ripen in a cool place for a day or two - then it will be ready to eat.

We recently had some brie on its last "use by" date. It was still solid... I'm not a fan of strong cheese, and I'm usually over-careful about dates, but brie is one thing that I think you can add weeks to in most cases!
