Trying to turn over new leaf etc in 2013 and diversify a bit away from the 7 or 8 meals I always end up cooking during the week.

Any ideas where to start?

My Old Chestnuts.....
Spaghetti Bolognaise
Toad in the Hole
Battered Haddock (frozen from Aldi) with Jacket Spuds
Slow cooked Chicken Thighs in Lloyd Grosman sauce
Green Thai chicken curry and rice
Chicken korma (de-spiced by adding cream for DCs)
Pizza and chips.

Now I look at this list I see how desperately I need to up my game!!

atm good food magazine and easy cook have a subscription offer 5 issues for 5 pound. I've found that although I have a million cook books and access to all recipes online, getting the magazine prompts me to try new recipes and always gets me more excited about meal planning. I took out a subscription last year as my resolution was to try two new recipes a week and it really worked. this year I am trying to make at least ten things from each cookbook I own Grin good luck

TBH here is a great start.

And looking at your list you can easily increase by adding risotto - which can pretty much be with anything you have hanging around. Ditto pasta bake. And stir-fry-any-veg-you-have-hanging-out (with noodles or rice).

Stews are brilliant - in the slow cooker (or hob). Then freeze to make a pie another time - either with a pastry (shop bought) or mash or sliced potato top.

And why not try to expand on what you already have? spag bol- easily adapted to a chilli, or omit tomatos and you have mince and tatties, add some rosemary and stilton scones to mince and bake (my lot love this), use bolognaise with jacket spuds, try meatballs, maybe with a chunk of mozzarella in each one? burgers? cottage pie? pasta bake with bol and cheese?

pork mince cooked with leeks and cider, topped with cauli and potato mash with a spoon or two of wholegrain mustard mixed in is a nice twist in classic cottage pie.

Most of the ideas are from a cookbook I've had for years- its called Mince! by mitzie Wilson. One of the best cookbooks I own. I don't know if its still in print, but it really does broaden the world of minceGrin

I second BBC good food, really excellent for recipes. I don't bother buying the magazine any more!

I have put lots of my recipes for family and friends on:

www.healthyindianrecipes.co.uk/

Its so easy to follow that my husband uses it too.
Its not just Indian food, but some lovely pasta and egg dishes too.

The recipes are fairly simple and I cook for a family of 6, covering from ages 2 to 91! I have my hands full so these recipes have to quick, simple and healthy.

I'm a big fan of all recipes and BBC Good food too but sometimes the pictures especially of desserts on BBC don't match what is cooked, even though I am following the recipe word for word, but great for ideas and inspiration.

Buy what's fresh and in season and then look online or in recipe books for what to do with it. I love rose Elliott's vegetarian books, although we are not veggie, the kids love every single thing I have made from it, and there are 1000s of recipes.
