Has anyone ordered a turkey from Marks and Spencer?

As in one of their all in one piece free range birds as opposed to a crown etc? If so, was it nice and also how was the size vs what you ordered? I'm looking to change from our local butcher who has, a couple of times, given me a turkey a few pounds smaller than that I ordered, so the size is really my main concern with Marks.

Thanks

I ordered a whole free range turkey from them years ago, and ended up having to take an ostrich-sized bird because it was late on Christmas Eve and was all they had. I was young and silly, so paid for the massive one at the price on it as opposed to the price of the one I'd ordered that they'd given to someone else. Lessons were learnt as I stumbled through the icy city carrying the behemoth bird like a baby.

It tasted like turkey. Nowt special, but turkey never really is.

Yes it was vair naice. When you order you state a size. When you go to collect they usually offer a small choice either side of that and the price is by exact weight (you will have only paid a deposit). They will also offer you a seasonal sip and a choccy while you wait.

We've had an M and S turkey the last few years. I have never ordered one though, they always have them in stock. DH buys one in Central London on his las day at work, there are always plenty.

We'll prob pop into Waitrose on 23rd this year as his last day is 21st and I don't have a lot of fridge space. But def won't order. Not sure why people bother ordering tbh.

Thanks you - I think I'll order one. Taffeta - in our case, I will order because our 'local' M&S is a small store almost 20 miles from here and the shelves are usually half empty. It feels prudent to order rather than find myself without Christmas dinner two days before Christmas!! Xmas Smile

I order Christmas dinner after the year when I went to M & S early on Christmas Eve and they had NO TURKEYS! Disaster!

I started off ordering from M & S, but now order from my local butcher after the year when I was in bed with flu and I sent DH to collect the M & S turkey crown. He brought it home without checking it and the packaging was all open. I was not happy with that - didn't know how long it had been open or where it had been, so sent DH back to change it - they changed it for one with a use by date of 23 December, so back he went again, came back with gift vouchers and we went to friends instead.

Now I order from my butcher, who will even deliver if I ask him nicely. I get a feeling of virtue knowing it's all sorted in October.

I've ordered from Sainsburys to collect on Christmas eve

Our local M&S is in the town centre and I don't fancy queueing for parking etc.

No but you'd be a fool to. Go in on Boxing Day and they sell them all for the same ridiculously low price whether they're te bog standard the free range or organic.
