Help with freezing soup please....

Hi,
I thinking of bath cooking some soup and need few pointers please!

Firstly, any recommendation for easy soup for the slow cooker?
Then, once cooked, do I blend it together, in a mixer?
How do I freeze it - in bags?
To re-heat, do I defrost, then re-heat in saucepan?

Sorry if these seem like silly questions, but I've never done it before!

Thanks!

Sorry don't have a slow cooker so no tips there, but re. freezing soup...I use Pour and Store bags, great for freezing liquids. I get them in tesco. And yes defrost & re-heat in pot or microwave.

I freeze all my soup in Chinese boxes, I buy them from the Oriental supermarket for about £2.50 for 25 of them. I like that I can stack them and today I counted 73 boxes of soup, I do batch cook about 4 pots at a time and my son and I take them every day for lunch. They freeze well and I leave them overnight to defrost :)

That's great!
I've been to Tesco this morning and bought some bags.
I've just put a load of veg in the slow cooker, with some stock - fingers crossed!

Hi Twinkle

I find the most efficient way to do soup for freezing is to make a big batch of soup that's really thick, then freeze that in portions that can be thinned down with more stock when you defrost. So if you reduce your leftover soup this time, then freeze, you'll be able to fit more in your freezer!

Just to say that when you put the bags into the freezer, stand them on a tray or in a tub as if it's a mesh tray then the bag kind of flops between the mesh, then freezes and getting it out again is a right pain in the bum!

You can line bowls or large mugs with the bags, pour the soup in, then when frozen lift out of the bowl/mug to store longer term.

Thanks everyone,

I tried my firt one todya - it was OK!
A bit lumpy though - I think I need to puree it a bit more!
I've seen 'soup makers' today - are they worth the price?

Thanks.
