Eek! - Opened jar of organic babyfood to find PLASTIC bits inside with the food!

Ordered shopping from Tesco online which was delivered yesterday and went to open a jar for lunch as haven't had time/energy to cook today. As I was spooning to food into DS's bowl - I notcied something of a different texture, picked it up by the spoon and then felt it. bits of clear plastic interspersed throughout. Last time I checked, plastic wasn't organic! I dread to think what could have happened if I didn't spot it. Have rung the company involved and they are "going to investigate further" but I'm totally paranoid now.

Thoughts please!

Notify your Tesco and Food Standards Agency, babyfood should be removed immediately from shelves until source of contamination can be identified

I agree with Piffle. You could also ring your local radio station and tell them...and the local paper.

Apparently the codes on the jar can let the manufacturers know the exact time and date they made the food up and sealed it. They're sending out packaging for me to return it to them so they can check it out - but think i will get in touch with Tesco to let them know in case there's any in other jars. I would hate to think anything could happen to a little one cos I didn't tell someone - but local radio? Don't want to go too far... I'm not out to get anything from this compenstaion-wise as nothing (thankfully) happened.

Thanks DD - I have a few jars of that in the cupboard so will be very careful when I open one.

News update - got a letter from Hipp saying "Very concerned to hear of your circumstances - we pride ourselves on our standards .... blah, blah, blah" and got £2 worth of vouchers and a jiffybag to send the jar back in. So I've posted it off and we'll see what happens. Don't care about the vouchers - want an explanation!!!

Had the same thing with another food manufacturer.

At the bottom of the jar there was blue plastic which filled about 1/3 of the bottom of the jar - it was absolutely unmistakeable, had had it delivered by a well known supermarket - otherwise would never have bought it! They said that 'terribly sorry blah blah' and refunded - down to the last penny - the cost of the jar. End of story. Apparently the blue plastic was wrapping used in another section of the factory!
