just wondering as it's very rare that we do. hubbie comes in fairly late at night-if he's not working away!-and i can't keep the kids waiting for their tea so they have theirs when they come home from school.

yes we do every weekend. And now DH is not commuting anymore, sometimes during week too. We all have lunch together which is really nice.

we do at the weekend but not during the week - as DH doesn't finish work until 9pm. DS's usually have theirs around 6-6.30 (well sometimes a bit later if I've been on here ) and I'll either eat with them, or if I'm working that night (like tonight) will eat around 9pm just before DH comes in.

Yes we always eat round the table and we always did when I was growing up. I think it helps childrens development, no telly on , no radio on just sit and talk to each other.

It also helps develop good manners.

Ithink its really sad that families don't sit at the table to eat.

DD is only 9 months so probably a bit small to count but remembering when me and my brother where small we always had our tea when we came home from school the only meal we ate as a family was sunday lunch.

We all eat breakfast together every day, and dinner (=midday) at weekends and holidays. The boys have their tea at 4.30 pm, which is a bit early for us; I always sit with them, but don't often eat iyswim!

GVL - I don't that's too young to count - IMO if they're eating solid food at roughly the same time as you then they're eating at the same time as you.

Not really - we're pretty disfunctional when it comes to this. I usually eat lunch with dd and ds on my days off but they have their tea at around 5pm (bed at 6pm) which is much too early for us. They certainly don't eat in front of the TV though.

Yes, we always try to eat together. DH works away alot, so then it'll just be me and the boys, but I love us all sitting round together. I never did as a child and always wanted to.

all meals are eaten at the table in this house though - although admittedly the TV is on - but in the living room (but then it's on all day everyday anyhow - but that's a different thread )

we all eat together at 5.30 except on weds and sat when the kids eat early (we always sit with them and have a cup of tea and a snack tho) and then dh or me cooks something later and we crack open a bottle of wine or a beer. We are lucky dh and me can both get home for half five tho.

Yes, we all eat up at the table. Dh gets home about 6/6,30 and we eat as soon as he gets in. We don't eat any other meal up at the table though.

We do too. DH gets in around 6:30pm during the week and I have dinner ready for just after that.

5-6 days a week at least. This has always been a big priority for us because both DH and I always ate with our families as children. I feel that it is the time to sit and talk and it is how the children learn to sit properly and use their manners at the table (by example rather than lessons IYSWIM.)

Fully understand how impossible it can be with 2 working parents or with a DH who commutes and is therefore home far too late. DH has been working away from home for 7 months so it has been only the children and I at the table but I did make an effort to serve proper meals and say grace etc etc so they were not out of the habit.

When I was a child we always ate together as a family - round a table, no TV on, proper food, etc.
I have to say I hated it and really resented it

But that was probably just my teenage years when I tried to avoid spending any time at all with any of the rest of my family!

Well, I eat with kids, dh not often here.

Never TV but usually have the radio on.
