This week's problem vegetables: fennel and flat beans

What do I do with them?

The flat beans are lovely, no matter what I do to them, which is nice, but is there any way that makes them better?

And fennel is a bit grotty, no matter what I do ... thinking about a salady thing, grilling it, with mozza and olives ...

I would put the beans into a curry (Thai or Indian) or cook as aseparate dish with garlic, ginger, onions, tomatoes cumin and chilli.
Great with brown rice and a dollop of thick yoghurt.

Fennel? Sliced thinly (mandoline would be good) with thinly sliced oranges (no pith)black olives and vinaigrette.

Fennel is pretty tasty just covered with lemon juice and sprinkled with salt.

I chopped the fennel up and put it in a fish pie - it was delicious. Have also seen people roast it with potatoes.

We had our flat beans just as they are, but I imagine they are also nice with a bit of lemon and olive oil.
