cake recipes pleae

ok i have plain flour, self rasing flour,butter, golden syrup, eggs, bicarb of soda, cream of tartar, bag choc chips, oats, essenses etc etc

does anyone have a recipe for a nice cake i can make on sat that will include any of the above, i dont have any money til next week so it needs to be something yummy but v v v cheap

sweetmonkey you need some sugar then you could make a victoria sponge or fairy cakes if you have the tins
cream butter and sugar, add eggs, then fold in SR flour. quantities: 125g sugar, flour and butter to 2 eggs will make about 16 small fairy cakes.
Or you could make choc chip biscuits, no recipes to hand but will have a hunt....

yeah have sugar too. have all basic bits i think, just wanted to do something different thats all.

more like a pudding IYSWIM instead of a cake

Hmm, pudding (scratches head)
am away from all my cookery books but nigella has a fab chocolate cake that is very simple to do, store cupboard choc orange cake, you aslso need some good quality cookign choc (70p in Asda) or you could melt the choc buttons, and a jar of marmelade. It's a plain cake but served with cream would be very good for pudding.

ah thank you. i have marmalade so would just need choc which wont be a prob

was thinking of apple crumble but did that week before last so just wanted to do something nice and different

yeah im doing a beef hot pot for dinner so any yummy sort of comfort puds would be good

just put loads of ayrup in the bottom of pudding dish then mix ordinary cake mixture and put on top. cook in microwave for about 4 mins

4 mars bars cho up in pudding basin then chocolate cake mixture on top!! that is so yummy..sticky and wonderful. Put a spoonful of choc powder in custard too!!!!

ok, probably work with white, but poss not as sweet tasting. Let's see if I can remember this

4 oz butter
4 oz sugar (white)
4 oz s/r flour
2 eggs
1 tblsp cocoa powder
1 tblsp drinking chocolate

mix together.

4 oz brown sugar
1 tblsp cocoa powder
1 tblsp drinking chocolate
about 1/3 - 1/2 pint hot water (enough to make a decent amount of sauce).

Pour on top of cake, put in oven for about 30mins. Hot choccy pud!



Chocolate Fridge Cake

1/2lb digestives
3 oz marg
1 1/2 oz sugar
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tbsp golden syrup

melt marg and cocoa, syrup and sugar

crush biscuites and add to liquid.

flatten into tin, cover with melted chocolate (if you put a bit of oil in the melted chocolate it sets really smoothly).

The kids love the hot choccie pud. The sauce sinks through the pudding and is all at the bottom of the dish. Don't use an ordinary cake tin, you need a dish so that it doesn't leak.

sweetmonkey, sorry, cdn?t get online last night
nigella choc orange cake in case you (or anyoen else) still want it;
melt 125g butter, add 100g choc and let it melt.
Beat in 300g marmalade, 150g caster sugar and 2 beaten eggs.
Mix in 150g SR flour bit by bit.
Put into 20cm springform pan (buttered and floured)
50 mins at gas mark 4/180 C
very nice and rich would make a good dessert with beaten doubel cream.

that sounds yummy. i dont have a spring tin though.
would 2 normal sponge tins do and put half mixture in each?

no, I would put it all in one normal tin then. It only makes one thinnish layer. The point of the spring tin is that it's easier to get the cake out!
If you are using a normal tin I would line it first. If it's not as big as 20cm (8in IIRC) then you will just get a slightly deeper cake.
