I burnt the top of my Christmas cake - can I cut it off?

Kicking myself as I had a feeling I should have covered the top with baking parchment but by the time I realized, it was too late sad

So I'm thinking of keeping it as it is for the moment, during the feeding with alcohol stage grin and then slicing off the burnt bit just before I put on the marzipan and icing. Will this be OK?

will be fine to trim - you might want to turn it over and ice the bottom as the top iyswim

Aha, yes, good idea to turn it upside down - thank you!

I've used a grater on burnt cakes before, when cold I've rasped away at the black bits :-) if it's just little bits but fruit is very bitter if burnt so it may be better to go with cutting and flipping it over.

Hmm, grater's an interesting idea. But knowing me I would make a horrible mess of it! So I think I will go with the original plan and slice the top off. Thanks smile
