Get a K-Mix. Really sturdy.

I have a Sainsburys one, think it was about £15. Brilliant.

Argos value one. 6 speed settings, does the job, around £5.50.

I've got a James Martin one, does the job for me, was about 15 quid.

I have one of these and it's a fabulous all-singing, all-dancing model, but the price tag can put people off...

My Asda fiver job is going strong after about 8 years of frequent use.

I've got a cheapy from Argos (cookworks?) Had it for years, does the job perfectly.

I don't use it since I got my Kmix, but my previous one was a hand mixer, a £5 from Asda one that served me proud for about 8 years. I'm not convinced spending more gets you a much better product for hand mixers TBH.

I only used it for cakes and buttercream though.

I'm very happy with the Kenwood one.

I have a Tesco value one. Cost me £4.97 years ago. I had to buy a replacement after I used it for mixing lime plaster. It still worked, but I didn't fancy making buns with it after I'd been mixing building materials with it. The 2 I've had have lasted me years, and made an awful lot of cake.

wolfcub that looks just luvverly but DH and I are on a bit of economy drive and I don't think I can stretch to it, especially as my cake making is a bit sporadic.

Sorry to say this, but I had a Tesco cheapo one and it was horrid. It smelt funny when it heated up and worried me silly.

I was oohing at the dualit mixer but don't know if I can justify the cost.

I have a Tesco Value one which I bought as a stopgap after my Kenwood broke. It cost about a fiver and has done a good enough job for the last 3 years or so that I haven't yet felt the need to replace it.

www.dualit.com/products/hand-mixer I can't recommend this highly enough, but in the soft touch rubberised finish not the shiny one. I have one, my mum has one, it can mix 2kilos of bread dough with no problems and has 6 speed settings and a retractable cord

Can I lurk with you? I also need one.... Would prefer a kitchenaid but cannot afford one!

Having struggled over the weekend to make a cake without it all curdling / my wrist snapping off, I realise I am making my life unnecessarily difficult! I don't have space for a KitchenAid or similar but would like a hand held mixer, mainly for cakes.

Any recommendations? Amazon has an 'Andrew James' one here which seems to get amazing reviews but I've never heard of the brand, or there's this kenwood one which is the same price (as it's free P&P) but gets more mixed reviews as some say it's flimsy.

Any recommendations?
