if you do, what sort?

have sneaking feeling it's not really supposed to have beans in at all but it always does in UK doesn't it?

Kidney beans. No idea if authentic, assumed it was. Never known it without beans ( except for picky dd).

I just use kidney beans.

Tried it with baked beans once and it wasn't very nice.

Kidney beans, have known a chilli to not have beans in it.

Whatever's in the cupboard. Cannellini, kidney, black eyed beans. It may not be authentic but it tastes good and thats what matters to me.

Red kidney beans.

I don't think this is just a UK thing.

The UK thing is to serve it with rice.

Kidney beans. I've never had a chilli without them in.

Nope, no beans. Did do until I realised we all picked them out! smile

Canadian friend says she puts kidney bedpans in, and corn! And baked beans.

That might be a bit too brave for me. I just don't remember it having beans in but I suspect that might be a more Tex than Mex thing.

I put a can of those kidney beans in chilli sauce for extra flavour. And peppers when possible.

Pascha Sun 12-Feb-12 17:12:38

bedpan?

Baked beans as the whole family hate kidney beans.

MitchieInge Sun 12-Feb-12 17:16:22

beacons! I meant beans, sorry

good old wiki, let's see what it has to say . . .

MitchieInge Sun 12-Feb-12 17:16:56

oh WHY

I type beans and get bedpans, I type bedpans and get beacons

!

Are you having chilli tonight by any chance Mitch?

MitchieInge Sun 12-Feb-12 17:20:20

haha, no! But was thinking of making it during the week, haven't cooked it for years and then I think I used a seasoning thing

sponkle Sun 12-Feb-12 17:20:46

red kidney beans here- otherwise it wouldn't be chilli but spicy mince.

When I was in Texas they had chilli with red kidney beans in it and refried beans as a side dish too.

MitchieInge Sun 12-Feb-12 17:40:09

ok looks like beans have been in chili for a really really long time

thanks

now tortilla chips or rice?

tutu100 Sun 12-Feb-12 17:44:18

I use kidney beans and baked beans as it bulks it out a bit more. I love chilli, it's my favourite cheap meal as you can make a huge chilli with a small amount of mince by bulking it out with pepper and various beans.

tortilla chips AND rice. and soured cream. and salsa. and guacamole. and cheese. yummmm.

TeamEdward Sun 12-Feb-12 17:51:40

LOADS of cheese!

MitchieInge Sun 12-Feb-12 17:54:14

mmmm officially hungry now

Popbiscuit Sun 12-Feb-12 17:55:48

Loads of beans. Usually put in three cans: Red kidney, chickpeas and black beans. I like to bulk it out so I can freeze some for a few extra meals and it also makes it much healthier.

If you're ever in a particularly slobby/self destructive/in need of comfort food mood, I highly recommend a bowl of curly fries with chilli on top, topped with a big dollop of sour cream. Mmmmm.
