Sign in if you have no life aren't going to flounce. Ever. For any reason and not because you have nowhere to go

kotinka Thu 16-May-13 18:09:25

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

I have no life. I am staying.

I'll stay.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 18:10:48

We are a bit sad, really, aren't we?

Imagine having to talk to dh every night shock

There seems to be a mass exodus at the moment.

It's very discons dissconcert worrying.

CatelynStark Thu 16-May-13 18:11:37

I've got nowhere to go having been on countless forums so I don't think they're are any decent ones left so I'm staying smile

Mintyy Thu 16-May-13 18:11:46

I'm on the fence til I find out who is staying and who is orf! wink

CatelynStark Thu 16-May-13 18:12:24

Oops - I'll be banned now for poor typing....

ExscooseMeMrOfficer Thu 16-May-13 18:12:32

I will stay I quite like it here and it gives me something to do smile

MooseBeTimeForSpring Thu 16-May-13 18:12:36

I'm staying <pulls up chair>

AtYourCervix Thu 16-May-13 18:12:50

I'm still here. Due a namechange though.

crazynanna Thu 16-May-13 18:13:09

I have to will stay as I am banned from everywhere else and no-one will have me

I'm staying.

I was imagining having to sit and talk to DH and the kids all night, every night.
It wasn't a good thought.

I have no life.

CatelynStark Thu 16-May-13 18:13:12

*THERE blush

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 18:15:00

Well, I don't care what you do Mintyy [huffs]

Oh goody, there are a few of us saddos

I'm staying, even though i rarely contribute anything useful grin

Maryz - you can't ever leave. Your parenting teen support thread is too valuable.

I should flounce because I am top of the most posts list all the time. blush

Are you still top of that list sparkling grin

Oh who's gone?
<looks around>

What else would I do?

ThisIsNotAFlyingToy Thu 16-May-13 18:18:39

1've never left. Have spent a 1/4 of my life on here shock

Yes Tantrums and I hardly post a thing.

That just gives us all a goal to aim for sparkling grin

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 18:20:16

I used to be there Sparkling blush.

LadySlatternly, there are some fantastic people on that thread now, I sometimes feel a bit redundant as ds is doing pretty well atm. It's sad to see how many are struggling.

Orchard, do any of us post much that is useful ? Most of my posts are utter drivel.

Right, I need to go and make some food. I hope you are all here when I get back.

Scores on the doors It can't be right.

CarpeVinum Thu 16-May-13 18:20:54

Me.

I even had MNHQ ban me once for my own good.

I still slunk back.

Am doooooooooooomed in my MN addiction.

kotinka Thu 16-May-13 18:23:17

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

GoblinGranny Thu 16-May-13 18:23:21

I don't flounce. I transform. I metamorphose...
Like when a larvae turns into a beautiful butterfly. Or a dung beetle.
I think this is possibly my seventh incarnation. grin

Pascha Thu 16-May-13 18:23:32

I'm here. I don't post much now but I lurk.

Oh Sparkling I've never seen that page before!
I was just thinking it's a good job MN doesn't have a counter leader board like XBox games do. DS will sneer at some sad person who has clocked up 27 squillion hours on a game.

Portofino Thu 16-May-13 18:24:53

Banned maybe, dead possibly, flounce never grin

SuPurbly* is on the list. I haven't seen her in ages. I don't actually know what it all means secret. Is it just Chat? All i know is I am at the top. sad

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 18:25:48

That can't be right Sparkling confused. Did Sue really post 347 posts on The Voice threads?

Startail Thu 16-May-13 18:25:51

DD1 has vanished upstairs, DD2 is playing on my Kindle fire and DH is off with work.
So I'm stuck with you lot.

Ooh not royalty kotinka. Well I hope not-just got too much to say for myself. blush

WeAreSix Thu 16-May-13 18:26:17

I'm staying. I need the company during DDs endless feeds!

AuntieEggy Thu 16-May-13 18:26:45

Im here .... Recent name change.

i don't know Maryz. it's really confusing. What week are they on about?

Locketjuice Thu 16-May-13 18:27:04

I have no life.. I'm here to stay!

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 18:27:22

Sue may not be here much, Sparkling, but she makes up for it in numbers-of-posts-on-one-thread-in-least-amount-of-time figures.

She is shit-hot on The Apprentice threads.

AuntieEggy Thu 16-May-13 18:27:51

Id never flounce i wouldn't get any posts hahahahahah

Xroads Thu 16-May-13 18:28:03

I'm staying only if begged wink

I've been here too long to fuck off now tbh.

Me, me, me.
I love it here, and am going nowhere.

MinnieBar Thu 16-May-13 18:28:28

I'm staying. Someone today said they LOL-ed at one of my posts for 5 whole minutes. I am in my prime.

Oh right Maryz. That would explain it then. Why isn't SPs on the list?

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 18:28:47

It seems to be a week behind - the week of May 11th ish

If I namechange for a week I will drop off the list.

Shaky Thu 16-May-13 18:30:58

My name is Shaky and I'm staying. I have been addicted for a year now

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 18:32:22

Imagine the embarrassment, Auntie. That's why I wouldn't flounce - imagine the horror of having an unanswered thread in Flouncers' Corner shock.

KittensandKids Thu 16-May-13 18:33:22

I have zero life so yes sorry I'm staying I shall continue to name change every 3 months, even though I talk the same drivel week in week out so can be spotted easily.

Badvoc Thu 16-May-13 18:33:29

I flounced once.
For about 2 weeks.
Then I NC and came back.
I may never leave......

FruOla Thu 16-May-13 18:34:00

I'm here. Not flouncing!

kotinka Thu 16-May-13 18:34:42

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

kotinka Thu 16-May-13 18:35:37

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

What else will I do when I'm trying to ignore DCs

See, that's why I couldn't flounce.

I can imagine me posting about how I was leaving forever, and everyone reading it thinking who the bloody hell is tantrums and why would I care that she is leaving forever?"
And no one replying to my flounce thread. That would not be fun.

nenevomito Thu 16-May-13 18:36:42

I'd love to go, but annoying people in RL is so 1980s.

MadBusLady Thu 16-May-13 18:37:01

I'm staying. I'm not name changing either. Out and ashamed proud.

AThingInYourLife Thu 16-May-13 18:37:52

I saw this thread in Active Conversations - thread started by Maryz, last post by Maryz

I though Myiubwere alone in Stayers' Corner, Mary grin

Glad to see you are not alone smile

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 18:42:00

I might be alone AThing, you never know.

Maybe everyone else is a sockpuppet. Or a member of mnhq. And there are really only three posters on the whole site?

That would explain some of the boring repetitive shite [arf]

MadBusLady Thu 16-May-13 18:42:58

But then much the same thing could be true of the SO-CALLED real world.

<paranoia>

Sunnywithshowers Thu 16-May-13 18:44:25

Is it wrong that I looked at the top poster's list and sighed with relief it wasn't me?

I'm here, but won't be here much next week as doing RL things. Like going to an MN meet on Saturday grin

Is it the Worcestershire one Sunny?

I solemnly swear never to flounce/ leave/ go all weepy and stuff over MN.

<shakes fist at sky>

Why are people buggering off then?

nenevomito Thu 16-May-13 18:47:09

What top posters list?

ImTooHecsyForYourParty Thu 16-May-13 18:47:25

Fraid you're not getting shot of me either.

I tried real life once.

It was disappointing.

It's not 'top posters' it's amount of posts baby. grin Link on my post of 18.20.

AnAirOfHope Thu 16-May-13 18:51:13

Can i join?

I flounced but came back had nowhere to go

Can the nc people pm me who you used to be as im sooooo confused now sad

If I didn't MN I would have to watch tv. And read newspapers. And womens magazines. So no, no thank you.

Its like a sad 90s James sit in at a student disco. <sits on dirty floor in jeans>

picnicbasketcase Thu 16-May-13 18:52:51

I sometimes stop using the site for weeks at a time but I seem to always come back because it's just too entertaining. I certainly wouldn't post a flouncey message, as it's a bit 'beg me not to go' and the most I'd get would be two replies saying '... and you are?'

hedgefund Thu 16-May-13 18:54:32

me, i namechange alot now but probably won't go (yet)

KittensandKids Thu 16-May-13 18:56:17

shock

I had no idea there was a most poster list thing!!!!

must try harder

ImTooHecsyForYourParty Thu 16-May-13 18:57:20

people think I live on here, but I never even break the top ten on that boardreader thing. grin

cornypedicure Thu 16-May-13 18:59:29

I log on most days, although I don't post anywhere as much as I used to. I've almost become a lurker shock

tumbletumble Thu 16-May-13 18:59:41

I love it here smile

That Boardreader thing is a fix IMO.

HoneyDragon Thu 16-May-13 18:59:52

I dunno.

AThingInYourLife Thu 16-May-13 19:00:04

<the mist clears>

Does the M in MNHQ really stand for Mary?

MaryzNiceHeadquarters.

It all begins to make so much sense...

How can people not want to be here when there is Eurovision at the weekend and mocking to be done?

HanShotFirst Thu 16-May-13 19:03:38

I'm staying - this place makes me laugh my arse off every day for seem reason or another.

I echo Porto - Banned maybe, dead possibly, flounce never grin

Great idea for a thread, I was getting quite sad reading Chaos's flounce.

OliviaMMumsnet (MNHQ) Thu 16-May-13 19:12:28

I'm not going anywhere. grin

NB if you are thinking of flouncing DON'T DELETE your registration.
You won't get yer nickname back...

ImTooHecsyForYourParty Thu 16-May-13 19:15:55

I KNOW!

Even when you beg them and they get Tech to give you your name back, they don't tell you that if you do a seasonal name change, you'll lose it again.

but they give Stratters full use of HERS!...

SoupDragon Thu 16-May-13 19:17:03

I won't flounce. I don't see the point - I'll just not post.

HoneyDragon Thu 16-May-13 19:17:41

Stratters is gorn forever sad

ImTooHecsyForYourParty Thu 16-May-13 19:18:12

stratters went again? When did that happen? They just gave her her name back!

kotinka Thu 16-May-13 19:20:45

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

HoneyDragon Thu 16-May-13 19:20:50

She deregged and everyfink Hec <<mournful>>

I'm fucking off to my den in Euro2012 and not coming out till next Feburary at this rate.

cocolepew Thu 16-May-13 19:22:52

I'll stay, not that I have anything interesting to contribute grin

BIWI Thu 16-May-13 19:24:48

I'm not going anywhere. I have my Bootcamp to corrall consider.

Plus, I love it here. And I love you all. <gin has been taken>

ImTooHecsyForYourParty Thu 16-May-13 19:25:42

I didn't know she'd gone again.

kotinka I may pay them to put my name at the bottom. grin

I'm staying.

I am a technology luddite and the past two summer holidays I asked DH to put MN on the list of banned websites on McAfee and actually had to interact with a reasonably nice time with my children <twitch>

I have an iPad now and have no idea if I can ban myself for the summer so my children are already doomed to seven weeks of fending for themselves.

I'm staying too.
Not that anyone knows I'm here anyway grin

I'm not leaving. I don't want to have to talk to DH in the evenings.

I deregged once when I got shouted at by some mean posters but this place is like catnip

<purrs>

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 19:35:51

Ooh, goodie.

Lots of victims stayers.

And <whispers> Olivia, thanks for fixing my title. No-one noticed [whew]

Sparkling, if it makes you feel any better it's usually one or two threads that get you on that top-poster-thingy. Like SuePurple with the Voice, or sometimes a Nobdie, or sometimes it's someone even I don't recognise and there has been a particularly active ante or post-natal group. Or a drunk thread.

So it is entirely possible to put up a couple of hundred short posts in the course of a tennis match, or an X-factor final, which skews the figures.

Of course I'm sure you post some sensible posts somewhere amongst all the crap [arf] [comforting]

kotinka Thu 16-May-13 19:37:43

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

TiggerWearsATriteSmile Thu 16-May-13 19:40:55

Seeing as none of us want to actually talk to our own husbands, should we swap?

Oh no, it's only Thursday sad

I'll come back tomorrow night for that.

MrsVamos Thu 16-May-13 19:42:03

I am here, I am here.

I had to eat me dinner earlier. Alopogies, I wasn't ignoring people on my 'pissed off' thread.

I seem to have completely missed lovely Stratters going. I shall miss her dreadfully, she was a proper lovely. We had some really good chats, I used to love putting the world to rights with her. sad

MrsVamos Thu 16-May-13 19:44:01

I won't flounce. RL gets a bit busy sometimes, but you can guarantee I shall re-appear like the Wicked Witch for the summer tennis and in December.

So, if you want to avoid me, just don't post from May to August, and December. Chances are you'll completely miss me then. wink

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 19:45:04

Sorry, Tigger, I don't want to talk to anyone's dh grin. I mean, I quite like mine - he is very useful for some things (erm, putting the bins out and paying the bills and stuff like that, you know wink), but talking he doesn't do.

When I want to chat about random crap he wants to solve the world's problems. Or talk about football. I don't know which is worse.

I thought Stratters would come back for specific threads, like The Apprentice and other random stuff. I didn't think she was gone for good

<adds Stratters to list of mumsnetters-I'm-going-to-visit-in-my-campervan-when-I-retire>

HoneyDragon Thu 16-May-13 19:45:52

Coco. After your announcement that you like to pop your phone in your vag, you reached anyones quota of interesting grin

CarpeVinum Thu 16-May-13 19:47:42

I'll come back tomorrow night for that

grin

MrsVamos Thu 16-May-13 19:47:51

I wanna come for a ride in your camper van, Maryz ! Please !

I hope Strats pops back.

kotinka Thu 16-May-13 19:48:14

HoneyDragon Thu 16-May-13 19:51:29

I'm going to CP soon <<clenches>>

ImTooHecsyForYourParty Thu 16-May-13 19:53:37

get yourself a rubber ring, pet.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 19:55:46

I hope it goes well Honey - that's the trip with the in-laws isn't it?

I was only there once, in my pre-mumsnet days - ds2 was 2, so 13 years ago. I am very old.

HoneyDragon Thu 16-May-13 19:56:38

I want a preventative Hec, not a fucking cure for a sore arse!

I needed a rubber ring when we went to CP but not because of anything rude.

I got on a bicycle for the first time in 30 years and then went horse riding.

I couldn't sit down properly for ages.

I have to stay. Where else can you get cake recipes and immac'ed babies, with a side order of YOUR MINGE! YOUR MINGE!

In fact, I'm going to start my very own Friday Night Bumsex thread tomorrow. With Nice Ham and stolen grapes for pudding. I may write it while I am parked in a P and C parking space without any DCs.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:02:15

Well, I'm off to watch the Eurovision.

Where else but mumsnet would you find people to watch the Eurovision heats with?

MrsVamos Thu 16-May-13 20:05:49

Have fun. Can't bear it myself. I don't mind watching the results to make sure England did indeed come last, again, but other than that. Urgh.

I'm waiting for pogsdogs. smile

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:16:16

It's quite fun on a thread, in a sort of "peer through your fingers from behind the sofa while imbibing large quantities of wine" way.

IamtheZombie Thu 16-May-13 20:18:07

Please, may Zombie stay? Pretty please with dropped off bits on top?

lynne999 Thu 16-May-13 20:20:20

I'm loving it tbh. Far better than watching darts/football/any sport with dh grin

Of course you can stay Zombie

You are one of my very FAVOURITE posters.

CremeEggThief Thu 16-May-13 20:22:18

I will stay.

<Waves at MrsV. Nearly time for Roland Garros smile >

MrsVamos Thu 16-May-13 20:23:34

<waves to Creme>

I am feeling a bit better. At least there will be a minimum of 4 of us on the tennis threads.

Can't wait for the 26th !

I will be watching Eurovision on Saturday in exactly the way that Maryz has described.

DS2 even comes out of his pit bedroom especially for it.

CremeEggThief Thu 16-May-13 20:24:41

smile smile smile

I'll stay. And bring cake.

May not post much, however, for the sake of my blood pressure. Getting seriously pissed off with humourless twats individuals who don't understand the wit of old and get all offended and reporty.

Nagoo Thu 16-May-13 20:28:29

I'm here.

I like all the things that get on other people's tits grin

And DH would only get encouraged if I were to start talking to him now grin

CarpeVinum Thu 16-May-13 20:31:22

I'm going to CP soon <<clenches>>

grin

See, that's why I can't leave. DH is funny and witty, but he is no match for you lot.

Nobody does banter like mumsnet.

And I know. I spent 5 years trawling the net muttering "booooorrrrinnnnnnnng" looking for a suitable replacement for my orginal "waste my life happily on 'tinternet amoung lovely argumentative and dead funny women" home which went flamewar-pop.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:32:13

Oh, yippee, Zombie, I was just about to pm you and see where you were. I haven't been around much and just realised I hadn't seen you.

I think the important thing to do is leave and hide threads that have gone all reporty. If you hide them, they won't annoy you and you can happily move on and post shite on the next thread that catches your eye.

If you get entwined in an argument on a pissy thread it ruins the site for days.

*Replace the word "you" with the word "me" in the above sentence hmm. I have got better at thread hiding recently.

cocolepew Thu 16-May-13 20:40:27

Bloody hell honey ! How do you remember these things? shock

HoneyDragon Thu 16-May-13 20:42:22

If it makes me laugh enough to choke, I remember grin

AuntieEggy Thu 16-May-13 20:44:30

Maryz eggsactly.

FanjoForTheMammaries Thu 16-May-13 20:46:42

I'm afraid I'm staying

I have half the sodding board hidden these days MaryZ

I ended up in Baby names the other day <shudder>

And a thread called what's your toddler having for tea?

My children are 9,14 and 15 FFS

I wonder if there is a scoreboard for the poster with the most hidden threads.

I might just be in the top 10.

MrsVamos Thu 16-May-13 20:52:22

I wonder if Yoshi would be considered an acceptable baby name ?

That's what our newest addition is called.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 20:52:34

Yes, they really need to stop putting all the threads and boards I've hidden into "most active". I keep getting drawn back into relationships hmm

I like baby names though. They can kick off beautifully. But it should be compulsory to come back and admit tell us the end decision.

AuntieEggy Thu 16-May-13 20:54:34

Ive only go chat, aibu, relationships and food ones.. Oh, and style.

AuntieEggy Thu 16-May-13 20:55:09

I meant got not go and i meant everything else is hidden

IamtheZombie Thu 16-May-13 20:56:05

Zombie is currently somewhere HOT and SUNNY, Maryz. But only for another 48 hours sadly. Then she will return to RL.

Whenever I go in Style & Beauty, I back out again feeling more frumpy than ever.

AuntieEggy Thu 16-May-13 20:57:43

Well I'm only 28 and i feel out of my depthgrin
To be frank i roll outta bed as hot as so ...... <Not really>

MrsVamos Thu 16-May-13 20:57:48

I just avoid style and beauty. I have neither.

Zombie

Enjoy your last 48ish hours of sunshine and heat. Rain, rain and more rain here. Big thunder rumbles too.

kneedeepindaisies Thu 16-May-13 20:59:42

I'm staying even though no one knows who I am

<links arms with kneedeep>

I have never posted on a style and beauty thread. Ever.

I look at the ones that say "what are we wearing today" and cringe. It's full of dresses and designers and labels and stuff.

I am normally wearing jeans. Or pyjamas.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 21:04:06

Oh, good, you needed a break if anyone did!

I have a few more topics unhidden - mostly hopeful ones like holidays and camping and gardening. And teenagers of course hmm.

I don't like S&B because every time I like a link it's dismissed by those who know, and I feel frumpier than ever.

IamtheZombie Thu 16-May-13 21:05:07

MrsVamos, Zombie has it on very good authority that it SNOWED less that 15 miles from her house yesterday. South Shropshire is NOT supposed to be like this in the middle of May.

I have to stop myself from posting "I wore that first time around" but I think it grin

IamtheZombie Thu 16-May-13 21:06:34

Zombie wore most things the first 2 or 3 times around. She really is ancient.

MrsVamos Thu 16-May-13 21:08:41

I've seen those threads. I bet really posters are sitting in their brushed cotton pj's or onesies, lying through their teeth.

I am always wearing jeans or pj's. And I usually have the heating on, and if I am dressed I'm wearing some sort of fleecy/hoody top too.

I feel the cold. I like to be comfortable. I have kids and a dog. I lost my fashion sense when I became a Brosette. That was over 20 years ago.

I am a frumpy, comfy dresser. smile

LtEveDallas Thu 16-May-13 21:09:05

I'm staying. Now that DD has stopped the "coming down the stairs 15 times after bedtime" I need something to do in the evenings. And don't tell me to talk to DH - never gonna happen.

I will be namechanging soon(ish) though. Haven't decided yet whether to add to my name, or go for something different entirely? Hmm decisions decisons...

MrsVamos Thu 16-May-13 21:10:12

I saw the snow in Shropshire, Zombie, on the news. Also in Devon.

I was very jealous. I love snow.

kneedeepindaisies Thu 16-May-13 21:11:13

<waves at LadySlatternly>

I posted on S&B but I think they guessed I was a style imposter hmm

IamtheZombie Thu 16-May-13 21:20:53

Zombie loves snow too. But she's so very tired of being cold.

Of course, that's one of the effects of being undead...

KatyDid02 Thu 16-May-13 21:25:35

I'll be staying for as long as I am billy no mates lol

MrsVamos Thu 16-May-13 21:25:51

I understand, Zombie.

I don't mind a bit of sunshine. It makes the snow glisten lovely sparkly.

I just don't like the summer. I'd be useless in a properly hot country.

scottishmummy Thu 16-May-13 21:27:58

I'd never flounce,I'm not that big heided

lissieloo Thu 16-May-13 21:28:29

zombie!! is it very hot? are you having a lovely time?

CredulousThicko Thu 16-May-13 21:30:12

I don't want to flounce.

Real Life is too difficult and tricksy. So I will stay here (non-royalty type namechanger).

I know how you feel Zombie - I feel like I've been wearing the same three warm outfits in rotation for years . My thermal vests are looking pretty seedy now

I would give my right arm for some proper warmth.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 21:37:14

I don't want Hot Hot, I just want to be able to walk from my house to the car without having my extremities frozen off while being soaked to the skin. Of course, extremity freezing isn't a problem for Zombies, apparently.

I thought they became more docile in the cold <loves a zombie story>

IamtheZombie Thu 16-May-13 22:03:52

It's more properly warm (mid 20s during the day, upper teens at night) than HOT, lissieloo. But compared to what it is back home, it's paradise! And yes, Zombie is having a very lovely time.

Same with Zombie, Laura. She must buy some more thermals. If by docile you mean huddled over a halogen heater, you're right. It's just a shame the ZombieCats haven't learned how to make a cup of coffee and deliver it.

Maryz, Zombie assures you that extremity freezing is an enormous problem for this Zombie!

I was gonna say I never leave anywhere but I did leave Bad Mothers Club, didnt bother tellin anyone cos it was so cliquey they wouldn't have noticed!

Style and Beauty? I am dressed exclusively by Tu at Sainsburys today, cos it's posher than George, innit.

I don't hide threads except for antenatal 'clubs' but I really should because I have been here so long I just CBA to read the same stuff everytime.

Which pushchair - just get a Maclaren, it'll fit in your car.

MIL doesn't like all my baby names - don't tell anyone the name until there's a baby and you've already named it.

Why doesn't my 2 week old baby sleep? Because it's a 2 week old baby, buy some concealer you will be tired forever several years

DP/DH still goes to his mum's for tea 3 times a week and doesn't like the way I iron his clothes - go find an adult for a partner. etc etc.

Maybe I'm just too lazy these days grin

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 22:19:08

I thought your bits had already fallen off, so their freezing wouldn't be a problem. You could just pop them in freezer bags and wait for summer to re-attach, surely?

<isn't really up on Zombie Extremity Etiquette>

I've never been anywhere else to leave. I am technologically challenged, but can manage mumsnet as it isn't sparkly and tickery and I can just type in good old plain English and swear

Zombie, I'm going to France this summer. I have put my foot down, having spent the last five years waiting hopefully for a sunny day. I'm going to get my legs waxed and buy some suntan lotion. I will be bee-yooty-full.

IamtheZombie Thu 16-May-13 22:20:29

Zombie has met you, Maryz. You are already bee-yooty-full.

AnAirOfHope Thu 16-May-13 22:22:40

Belated Happy Birthday Zombie, enjoy your holiday xx

Nagoo Thu 16-May-13 22:23:37

If the old Roald Dahl sunbeams theory works Maryz, you'll be reet smile And you Zombie smile

I've had beer. I'm all sad that I can't drink tea in your houses and eat your biscuits. I love you people.

Theselittlelightsofmine Thu 16-May-13 22:24:28

I staying smile

I would go nuts if I only had DH to talk to every evening grin

seeker Thu 16-May-13 22:25:11

I name changed for the first time earlier in the week. For about 20 minutes. Then I changed back again. I'd rather leave than name change,

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 22:26:40

I luffs everyone too and I may have had wine

yy seeker. I couldn't start again after all this time. A new name would be a makey-uppy name, and wouldn't be me.

BrianCoxandTheTempleofDOOM Thu 16-May-13 22:27:05

Late to the party but you cant get rid of me, I'm like a bad smell grin

I'll be here for ever, posting shite and occasionallg getting uppity but mostly just posting shite.

Also due a NC, BrianCox is sooo last year!

IamtheZombie Thu 16-May-13 22:28:31

Thanks, AnAir. smile

MardyBra Thu 16-May-13 22:38:27

I'm late too Brian. This flouncing business is a bit shit. I know some MNers link up on FB, but the thing is I like the anonymity of MN. And the randomness of it not always being the same people. I know I could set up a separate FB account as Mardy, but that's just too complicated for my poor old brain. I tend to keep FB for RL people.

Oddly, one of the few MNers I have as a FB friend is Chaos, because she PM'd me and suggested it. Maybe she's done that to everyone she knows and has created her own secret network - "Chaos Moldies" aka "Coldies".

SaggyOldClothCatPuss Thu 16-May-13 22:45:17

HERE! And staying.

VivaLeBeaver Thu 16-May-13 22:50:29

Where are people going?

I've seen cryptic references to another place.

It's not another Mouldies is it <whispers>

DearPrudence Thu 16-May-13 22:51:30

MN is like home. Can't imagine leaving.

Maryz Thu 16-May-13 22:54:36

Yup, Mardy, exactly that about Facebook.

I think it's that I have teenagers, and I can talk honestly here whereas on Facebook someone would know someone who knew someone who'd tell the kids I was moaning.

Quite apart from the fact that I'm an old gimmer and I'm resisting Facebook with every fibre of my being.

FunnysInLaJardin Thu 16-May-13 22:55:44

me, I have never and would never flounce. Flouncing is for pouffs

MardyBra Thu 16-May-13 22:59:55

Yes, my eldest is on FB Maryz. She thinks I'm lame, because my FB friends are only in double figures.

FB, for me, is for seeing pics of friends' kids who have moved abroad, or keeping up with family. MN is much wittier and faster moving. I did once set up a dummy FB account as Mardy, but DS uses my ipad to play Simpsons Tapped Out and I'm sure he'd stumble upon it if I used it properly. It's bad enough having to remember to sign out of MN.

LadyClariceCannockMonty Thu 16-May-13 23:02:17

I have nowhere else to go and no life to speak of too many good experiences on MN to flounce. I'm staying!

HousewifeFromHeaven Thu 16-May-13 23:03:07

Yawn. I'll stay. Am too tired to find anywhere else as comfy.

Nighty night me best bitches

Ledkr Thu 16-May-13 23:04:13

Go on then ill stay but only untill my big lottery win or Justin Timberlake sees sense and Mary's me. Then I'm off I tell yus.

SP Real life is boring anyway, you can't do dodgy unlabelled links. It's not the same to go round thrusting pictures of Peter Andre in people's faces saying "Surprise!"

Aww thanks droitwich. I am a 'might' for Saturday too. smile

SPs how on earth are you not on the top posting list? confused

I won't go either, if only because watching shite telly is 900% more entertaining with you lot!

I don't think I will name change either, I feel comfortable as Scone.

But.... <looks stern> if Sparkling or Maryz flounce I will rethink. So ner.

Ubermumsy Fri 17-May-13 07:38:54

I'm staying. Nowhere else can I discuss topics as diverse as clematis, arse worms and bottle refusing.

CarpeVinum Fri 17-May-13 07:47:18

Facebook is shite as a refugee camp for off shoots of a huge community.

All these years after my original Argumentative and Funny forum went "exodus" the names I remember best and missed the most have gone through various alternative "homemade homes" and are now bunched up together on facebook.

It's not the same without the backdrop of a huge number of posters, most of whom had non memorable usernames. Unfortuntly they provided the diveristy, the challenge to "group think" and general "fresh blood" that while not particularly attention grabby in their own right....you seriously notice in their absence. Becuase as it turns out, the huge mass of names I don't remember were evidently the presence that made the diff between "I love this place" and "Forum version of coke that went flat".

I do pop into to our "refugee camp on facebook" from time to time. But it ends up making me feel more sad than glad usually.

Maryz Fri 17-May-13 08:22:31

That's very true Carpe.

I mean, if those of us who think we know each other, recognise each other's views and opinions and like each other only talk to each other life would be very boring.

We would all have to agree and be nice, to avoid offending people we "know", there would be no wider discussion and our opinions wouldn't be stretched. It would all become very insular.

I have learned loads of things on here, a lot of them from fuckwits and people I have thought were eegits, but they have opened my eyes to the way some people in the real world actually think, which has been good for me.

And also, I've been here off and on for donkeys' years. In that time there have been people I've really liked who have gone sad, but new people who I also really, really like have appeared. Had I given up and gone when some of the oldies left, I would never have had the joy of "meeting" the newbies.

And I won't can't do Facebook anyway, so I'm stuck.

CarpeVinum Fri 17-May-13 08:41:21

to avoid offending people we "know"

<nods vigorously>

It went from hotbed of colourful and often massively over excited debate ..... to a victorian tea party.

And whereas before people saw their points as being challenged they started to take any disagreement really personally.

And it was boring. The same people saying the same things about the same stuff. Plus there were a handful, of what we called "Ye Olde Wise Elders" who seemed to miss the attention and adulation of a wider audience, and went a bit "post traumatic cut off of adulation" DIVA on us.

Dear God that was messy.

Not to mention the whole issue of some posters also being admin.

The whole "secret admin board to bitch about other posters"GATE, followed by "it's my ball and if I can't make up the rules as I go along to suit me then I am taking back my ball"GATE. I am not allnthe facebook savvy but maybe the fact everybody has their own page helps with that bit at least ?

Oh. Am all sad again. We had a brilliant thing going. Took me from when DS was a six week old fetus to about four or five years old. I am not sure which was more painful (melodramtic I know, but I was stuck alone in Italy as a first time mum and that place was my entire lifeline and social life) the original exodus that signaled the beginning of the end, or the death thoes as we wandered from one new refugee camp to another after each and every subsequant split due to in fighting and DIVAitus. sad

RubyGates Fri 17-May-13 08:48:37

I'm still here...
Mainly because I can't see the TV all the way over the other side of the room anymore.
And. I'm trying to avoid injecting antibiotics into a rabbit's puss-filled ear. (Oh God)
And. I have a million other things to do which need a lot of procrastination. And you lot don't know who I am or what I should be doing so you're not going to yell at me at make me do them.
So you're stuffed, really. I'm not going anywhere.

Maryz Fri 17-May-13 08:54:17

Oh, God. It sounds like being back in school, with the 6th form cool girls deciding who can and can't use the common room grin

I do think it's important that there are a lot of people on a board, both to keep it moving and to provide variety.

I know some people think there is a clique at the "top", the infamous mumsnet royalty, but in fact if you look at it it's to do with prolificness of posting. I go through patches where I would challenge Sparkling for top of the board, just on quantity alone. And then patches where I have a life I'm here less often. I'm recognised because I don't name-change, I never have. There are a lot of people here longer than me who have name-changed a lot so are less noticeable, I suppose.

But the fantastic thing about Mumsnet is that you can ask about anything at all and get an answer. From housework to legal matters to custody issues to buying a house to getting a school place. And at the same time get a hand to hold if you need one, or a kick up the arse if that's what you actually need.

seeker Fri 17-May-13 08:59:15

People aren't going off somewhere else again, are they? How deeply pathetic of them if they are.

Oh well, if they are, they won't be able to resist those ego massaging anthropological field trips back to see how the little people are getting on, and to hear the "oh how we've missed you" squeals........

Sunnywithshowers Fri 17-May-13 09:06:50

Arf seeker

mum47 Fri 17-May-13 09:09:47

I am not flouncing. I don't know anyone, so nobody would notice anyway.

Also, I have no spacial awareness so would be sure to trip on my way out and make a tit of myself.

And on a more serious note, I have had some really good advice and support on MN - you are a wise old bunch!

CarpeVinum Fri 17-May-13 09:10:31

Oh, God. It sounds like being back in school, with the 6th form cool girls deciding who can and can't use the common room

oh it was.

Pleanty of pigtail pulling in the playground too. From a bunch of intelligent (they were, honest!) women who got all caught up in the death throes dynamic.

Any established forum has "wise elders", it's part of a well documented almost unavoidable forum dynamic. But what a lot of "we resent the ermine mob!" posters perhaps don't get is that it isn't fixed. People come and go, new posters rank rise, some established posters take breaks, namechange and lose past kudos, or have one highly visible "bad day" and become pariahs overnight under the mother of all dog piles.

From what I saw being a wise elder is a bit crap. They are kind of stuck with giving the same opinion cos any discrepancies are highly visible and get jumped on, they can't argue with some people due to a sort of "friend" based alleigence and people want them to always post prolifically when a certain topic comes up. So they end up burnt out and handcuffed under the weight of other posters expectations.

Generally speaking any real or immagined leeway they get from TPTB is no compensation for what they lose in terms of being just a bog standard poster.

Maryz Fri 17-May-13 09:11:24

I don't think so seeker. I think it's that a lot of people from here are friends on Facebook, so chat to each other there.

I don't think there's a moldies part 2. But of course, there could be one and I've been blackballed grin

In fact, that would explain a lot [wibble]

Hassled Fri 17-May-13 09:12:56

I'm a stayer. For sheer, dogged, head-down persistence I reckon I probably deserve a shiney tiara or summat.

And yes, you're absolutely right - post any random question any time and someone will know. And it's a constant source of company - company you can just log into whenever you need it, and offer whenever you want to.

Nagoo Fri 17-May-13 09:19:00

Klaxon!

Rabbit. Pus. Ear.

Details grin

Maryz Fri 17-May-13 09:20:45

And walk away when you want without feeling guilty. That's important too.

So I can be involved in a thread on here about anything, serious or light-hearted, and then if it gets boring one of the kids comes in, for example, I can just walk away without anyone being upset or feeling abandoned. Because they are talking to other people as well. It's great.

Maryz Fri 17-May-13 09:23:44

And yy about the "elders" Carpe. You summed that bit up rather well.

CarpeVinum Fri 17-May-13 09:25:26

grin

Take heart Maryz the sporners will never leave. They need a huge pool of posters on the basic of pus filled probability being better served by huge numbers of be-skinned persons (and rabbits).

Maryz Fri 17-May-13 09:28:25

Oh yes, another reason to stay.

The sheer bloody weirdness of it all grin

MadBusLady Fri 17-May-13 09:36:20

That's all very insightful carpe. All the same things apply to blogospheres. I got to be an elder in one, and yes in the end it was boring and constricting, yet also high stakes.

I thought about flouncing yesterday because on the "assisted suicide" thread someone posted ....

juggling the too much morph

hmm < flash-backs of morph, Tony Hart, and Vision On >

Then they re-posted with
juggling the too much morphine thing was about ....

So, what do you think ?
Did they press "post message" too soon ?
Or were they trying to tell me something ?
And am I being paranoid ?
Or was it deliberate, and even quite witty of them ?

Hmm hmm
What to make of it all ?

Anyway, I'm staying anyhow grin

ImTooHecsyForYourParty Fri 17-May-13 09:40:53

sporn. I don't know why I love it so. Something seriously wrong with me.

I have also discovered ear wax and tonsil stones videos.

One more set of revolting youtube clips and I shall have no time for mumsnet. grin

I wonder if there's some sort of support group to help you kick it. Hi my name's hec and it's been 3 weeks since I looked at an exploding boil on youtube.

CarpeVinum Fri 17-May-13 09:45:32

That's all very insightful

I think that is a very complimentary way to put it.

My husband thinks it is wierd that my way of dealing with the "grief" of a lost online community was to spend about 700 woman hours trawling web master forums and other tech articles to find out every tiny detail of the how, the why, the who so I could come to terms with it.

So I think "insightful" is probably a nice euphamism for "rather obsessive and overly emotionally invested" grin

That why I name change like the clappers now. I don't have the ability to stay emotionally detached during the cycles of turnover, so I avoid attachement by staying invisible. And becuase of that I think there might be something deeply wrong with me hmm

CarpeVinum Fri 17-May-13 09:48:25

it's been 3 weeks since I looked at an exploding boil on youtube

<hands over "lasted three whole weeks" medal>

LtEveDallas Fri 17-May-13 09:49:45

I've got two people on my FB that I 'know' through
MN. One is no longer here but regularly reads and the other I only added this week after realising that I thought I already had blush curse my FB ineptitude.

FB is my real name, so I won't randomly add people, but I admit I sometime feel a frisson of, I don't know, jealousy? paranoia? wishing-I-was-in-the-cool-crowd-itus? when posters mention being on there.

I don't know. I think I like the relative anonimity of MN (although I'm not actually that concerned about it - I'm quite open on here I think), and I like being able to have proper conversations. FB is just for quick catch-ups.

So I cannot imagine leaving here, not for a long time yet.

If I did leave, I would have to come back and check everyday if anyone was talking about how much they missed me and how devastated they were by my leaving.

And then when I discovered no one even noticed I was gone I would be very sad.

Thats why I cannot leave.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Fri 17-May-13 10:10:15

Well, I'm delighted to hear that you are all staying.
And I'm sure you will all be ecstatic to know that I am too!

Thanks BBB
And yes, we are ecstatic smile

Maryz Fri 17-May-13 10:32:43

Oh, erm, yes, ecstatic.

grin

I think having teenagers has put many of us off Facebook. When your dd's so-called best friend cancels a day in town because she has to visit her Granny, and then photos of said best friend appears at a party with other so-called friends on Facebook, it makes you realise how harmful it is to live your life in the spotlight.

In the old days, dd would never have known.

Nowadays they all seem to obsessively follow each other around, knowing exactly what they are doing with whom and where. It gives me the heebeejeebies. It's like Facetime - what's all that about shock? The thought of wanting people to see me in my pj's with unwashed hair and dribble down my front is revolting.

I ring people so I don't have to see them.

And when they do go anywhere they spend all the time taking pictures to put on FB.

All the way through the event they are updating and posting pictures to show everyone what a good time they are having.

How good can it be if you have time to be on FB constantly? Just go and bloody well enjoy yourself.

CarpeVinum Fri 17-May-13 10:41:40

I ring people so I don't have to see them

Egg-fucking-xactly !

Down with skype and facetime! some of us need serious warning before we are fit for public visible consumption!

If I have to clean and declutter an area behind me and run around for a bag to stick over my head at every communication I will go incommunicardo out of sheer exhustion and stress.

Maryz Fri 17-May-13 10:56:29

Yes, and if they go to an event they spend so much time recording it they forget to watch it - I will never forget the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies, where every athlete had a phone held up, recording what was happening, instead of them just absorbing the atmosphere. I don't understand it.

I would never skype my mum for that very reason, Carpe. It's bad enough doing a panic clearup when she comes over grin

Ilikethebreeze Fri 17-May-13 10:58:55

CarpeVinum. That was as insightful post.
I also would add that if you are a "wise elder" of a group or forum or whatever, that you feel obliged to sort of cheerlead someone in your group, even if really, in your heart of hearts you are torn on the issue, or even worse, actually disagree!

Maryz Fri 17-May-13 11:04:33

I have to say I have had humdingers of arguments with most many regulars on here at one time or another, and agreed to disagree on many topics. I wouldn't not challenge someone if I disagreed with them just because they had been around a long time. And I wouldn't like to be not challenged either.

And I certainly wouldn't support someone if I didn't agree with their views just because I recognised their name. Though if I knew their back story, and understood why they held those views I'd be more likely to be sympathetic, iyswim.

cornypedicure Fri 17-May-13 12:00:19

I don't 'get' facebook.
And it always freezes.
And people post embarrassing pissed up pictures of you on it.

CarpeVinum Fri 17-May-13 12:13:09

Maryz

Which makes you unusual. grin

I am not calling you weird ! But you might be more "evolved" (or grumpy old woman ? <ducks> ) than your average poster/human.

I am a grumpy old woman, but I find it hard to cut an albeit tenuous connection forged in anonomouslandia. So I namechange to avoid the "human" connection becoming a ...gag.

I am so boringly average I hate myself. I never get to be an outlier. I am always slap bang in the middle of the "tediously average" mass.

This vile thing SPs. I want to be lower down.

I have been a FB resistor for a very long time cos I always thought of it as something my grown up children used. I didn't want to be the oldest swinger wink in town.

I am on there now because a couple of lovely friends can only be reached by the medium of status updates and 'wacky' photos. But I really don't get it - the conversations are always the flipping same 'Oh no hun, what's wrong?' stuff and the games that everyone raves about really baffle me. I am not the right demographic and I am too old...

everlong Fri 17-May-13 12:20:10

only 43 (now 44) posts from moi though this week!

Ooh - I've heard about a "top posting list" before but have never found it before Sparkling. I love stats - some lovely obscure ones on there that I don't quite understand. Am surprised I'm not in the top ten this week - others obviously have it worse than me !

How do you know how many posts you've posted up this week Fanjo ?
(You're not counting them as you go I take it ?)

HoneyDragon Fri 17-May-13 13:09:08

I have a few Mnetters on my FB, it tends to be people I really like over here.

It's handy, because I find things get a bit disparate in times of snippiness, and people who like to chat about bollocks or ask how your dads poorly leg is, het bitched at for being cliquey bastards. So you simply move the waffle away.

Obviously this would include Maryz, before she gets the hump, but she is a TechnoWuss.

Chaos has not joined a secret club. Nor have other defectors, they have just been bothered by the same old shit most of us have been complaining about.

BIWI Fri 17-May-13 16:28:07

I love MN
I love FB
I love Twitter

I always have three tabs open at the same time

blush

But they are all for different reasons.

I'm in various 'private' or 'secret' MN FB groups and I know that there are probably hundreds of the buggers. It can feel like being left out of school clique sometimes - you just have to accept that you're not going to be popular enough/relevant enough to be in everything.

And I don't think we've crossed swords yet, Maryz, have we?! (I hope not - I try not to get involved in confrontation)

Sparkling, MN'ers at the meetups I've been to seem to be about 50-50 as to whether they reveal their RL name. Everyone goes by their MN name (I even have a Hearts badge), I tell people my real name (first name only) but many just go by their MN name. It's whatever you're comfortable with. No one puts any pressure on anyone else to reveal their real name or anything, it's great, very comfortable. I actually really like it when people call me Hearts for some reason.

Crikey BIWI how do you keep up with it all?

Is this a new quiche? Can I join?

No one has ever invited me to a Facebook quiche, but I like the anonymity on here.

Thanks Hearts. Just curious. smile

Oh you can't, Hearts - that way madness would definitely lie! I just dip in as and when I have the time. Which is far too much of the time

Mind you, it's helped by the fact that DH always has some kind of bloody sport on the TV!

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered Fri 17-May-13 16:49:17

Ah, Le Sport is a great excuse isn't it?

And one appears so magnanimous too, lots of brownie points!

seeker Fri 17-May-13 17:09:58

'you just have to accept that you're not going to be popular enough/relevant enough to be in everything"

Such a comfort you are!

RubyGates Fri 17-May-13 17:15:02

Nagoo, it's that, or an amputation.
I'm willing to try out the new protocol rather than have a sad rabbit with no ears. sad

We've got one abscess going down, but now the other side has come up, so it's back to the antibiotics and the syringe. I'm probably only willing to try it as I had to inject myself with anticoagulants for the whole of my last preganacy. But apparently rabbits have very solid skin and:
klaxon odd , rather solid pus that's the consistency of cottage cheese or toothpaste.

BIWI Fri 17-May-13 18:09:55

grin

Well I know I'm not, seeker! Saves a whole lot of angst if you can accept that.

MardyBra Fri 17-May-13 18:11:21

I don't think I've ever crossed swords with Maryz.

I've never been invited to a secret quiche.

I must try harder.

LtEveDallas Fri 17-May-13 18:31:09

I have 'politely disagreed' with Maryz. We were on a thread together, where we held complete polar opposite views - and yet we managed not to have a bun fight and even exchanged smiley PMs throughout.

No crossed swords there, no even crossed breadsticks grin

I am so tempted to name change and become NotRelevantEnough

grin

BIWI Fri 17-May-13 18:47:25

grin

Honey I hope you aren't been ageist! grin

I'm going to set up my own secret quiche where its so secret only I'm in it so I'm agreed with constantly. So basically the first 15 mins of any thread I start grin

MaryZ we've never argued either.

Sparky you don't argue with nobody grin

grin

MardyBra Sat 18-May-13 10:10:54

Fiderer I'm half way through the final series. I've been waiting for about 2 years to come and join one of your WW threads.

Fiderer Sat 18-May-13 10:26:50

Mardy Just checked. Fairly safe, nothing explicit from S7 but on re-reading, maybe an oblique reference to Santos. Ignore HKTekGuy's trivia post and it's spoiler free for S7.

And that Ainsley Hayes left but we knew that. If you can cope with knowing that she went to work for the Hoover Institute, then you'll be fine
wink

Use it as a taster and - no one has got the 5 Votes Down names or how much Leo's bike cost.

And finish S7 already grin

MardyBra Sat 18-May-13 10:38:58

Just had a quick look Fiderer but I'm not sure I know half the answers. I think I'd rather wait until I've finished, so I'm not worried about accidentally seeing something. Thanks though.

I see Maryz isn't providing you with wine though, Talc. Tsk.

Talc, it looks like Maryz is tormenting you by holding the biscuit and brew just out of your reach.

ps. you really do need to start an art gallery of your wonderful pictures.

Fiderer Sat 18-May-13 15:53:46

Talc I'd chain you to MN <said affectionately>

I don't think I've read a post of yours that didn't make me smile.

blush aw shucks.

Actually BIWI - it's okay about the wine; I'm one of those strange non-drinky types.

Like Boy George - I'd rather have a nice cup of tea.

Mintyy Sat 18-May-13 16:04:26

Mary you awd fucker! I have never had a run-in with you NEVER! How very dare you.

MardyBra Sat 18-May-13 16:07:11

Boy George later admitted he was lying about the cup of tea thing iirc.

Maryz Sat 18-May-13 16:08:25

I can do a luffly hot chocolate and smores if you like, for the long cold winter nights.

Obviously I need to up my crankiness and level of argumentativeness or everyone will start accusing me of arse-lickery - there seem to be rather a lot of people I'm agreeing with atm.

By the way, to counter all the flouncing and de-regging, I do like the idea (Tantrum's idea on the other thread I think) of a Thursday Night at the MN Palladium ™ - with larks, capers and typos a-plenty. A place for anyone with a funny bone - I don't care if it's Thursday or any other night, but it would be good to know people are still alive and that there is a real world out there that I might sometime rejoin

So all those who don't want to seriously neglect their children but who want to catch up on all the scandal, the latest extended stories, the appearance of the ghost of Mitmoo and t'other ones could pop in for a chat and a wine or brew.

Ooh, that's an idea Maryz smile

And it would obviously need some of us hardcore 24/7 Mumsnetters to spread the gossip help everyone catch up with stuff.

It would be a service to the community grin

It's a great thread title - I think you should just go with it and see what happens. And some people are up to other stuff on Friday nights grin
(or so I hear)

Pancakeflipper Sat 18-May-13 16:19:09

I cannot be arsed to leave. I would have to find a new forum, think of a new name.

And find new people for who are delighted when I post lopsided knitted squares to them.
I would never know the best methods to flush an unflushable poo.
And I would miss out on threads about treats that are surprisingly ok for my intolerant DS2 to eat.
And I wouldn't know what beauty products are a waste of my money.
And I can chat boringly about The Archers.

Fiderer Sat 18-May-13 16:20:56

And Maryz is one v good reason for staying - PM'd her lately when I thought my head would explode with teenage-related troubles. MN can be a bloody lifeline esp when you're stuck in ForrinLand.

<polishes shoes and checks stage makeup for Palladium Night>

Maryz Sat 18-May-13 16:30:58

Thanks Fids - but I don't think I was much help. My own brain was frying a bit at the time hmm. How's things, anyway.

And do feel free to pm me anytime. I'm quite good at being pragmatic and sensible about other peoples' teenagers - it's my own I can't cope with [sigh]

BellaVita Sat 18-May-13 16:35:41

Stayers Corner - that will be me then! grin

AHem - I think you'll find that Thursday at the MN Palladium™ is a product developed in laboratories of Glaxo SmithTurnip.

We must make it so. Must not clash with any other weekly regular threads - that could lead to run-ins and fights on the seafront at Brighton.

<< waits by letterbox for royalties to stream in >>

And I agree with Fids - Maryz is an excellent reason for staying - as are all the wonderful people on this fred. I am a smarmy git.

Maryz Sat 18-May-13 16:51:03

Yes, Talc, I knew it was someone's idea (not mine), but couldn't remember whose blush

Start one on Thursday and we can have a weekly "troll/scandal/deleted threads roundup, with accompanying gin and nibbles".

I would like the opportunity to make shit up and pass it off as the God's honest.

With filthy links.

Maryz Sat 18-May-13 16:57:02

Oh yes.

"Here is this week's roundup. We had a visit on Tuesday from a pair of gloves who left a large cow-pat in the middle of AIBU. On Sunday, we built a couple of extensions to our boxroom. On Wednesday night Sue returned with her purple pants to commentate on The Apprentice"

The last one might be true

LoveBeingUpAt4InTheMorning Sat 18-May-13 16:58:05

Count me in

Maryz Sat 18-May-13 16:58:20

And I could link to some lovely tennis players. And rowers. I like rowers.

Please may I stay? <<needy>>

I frigging love this place.

And I am rather partial to swimmers grin

3 years to go until DS1 is a teenager...

I can bring the cricketers

(he's 6' 7" you know - uses an extra long bat)

Maryz Sat 18-May-13 17:13:47

ffs, Talc. I thought that would be kittens again.

Another internet history cleanup for me [sigh].

What on earth gave you the impression it might be kittens? confused

Don't worry about your History - you can't see tackle or owt.

Thursday Night at the MN Palladium is genius - with a bit of Wheel-Tappers & Shunters Club (without Manning) thrown in for us northerners.

Fiderer Sat 18-May-13 18:26:41

Blimey Talc shock Nice bat.

<more please>
<doesn't like kittens>

Yes it is a nice bat, isn't it Fid?

I think it's a Gray-Nicolls Legend.

LineRunner Sat 18-May-13 19:31:19

I will stay.

I just really enjoy it. Also, learning to ignore the Purposefully Provocative has been helpful in life.

Hooray Liney!

I think you are right. I've read stuff on MN that has left me unshockable now. It's an education.

I am still easily shocked so I never click on links <lightweight>

Mantella Sat 18-May-13 20:44:02

Linerunner, "ignoring the Purposefully Provocative". Thank you. This will be my mantra from now on if that's ok with you.

Signed, roughly knocked around by AIBU, name changing but staying.

CarpeVinum Sat 18-May-13 21:09:49

MN can be a bloody lifeline esp when you're stuck in ForrinLand

Secondio!

MN can be a bloody lifeline esp when you're stuck in ForrinLand

Especially when ForrinLand is the UK grin
MN taught me a lot about social mores in Britain. 'Tis an education, oh yes.

Maryz Sat 18-May-13 23:38:04

Oh, yes to ignoring the Purposefully Provocative. That's a great name, the PP, to go with the PO (as in po-faced, not professionally offended before I offend anyone).

LineRunner Sat 18-May-13 23:42:18

Oh hello, it's Denmark calling. grin

Maryz Sat 18-May-13 23:57:26

Mantella Sun 19-May-13 00:30:51

LineRunner Sun 19-May-13 16:13:57

That's another reason to stay. I'll never need to be alone again watching Eurovision or the X-Factor.

MrsVamos Sun 19-May-13 22:22:56

I wanna see the tennis players and the rowers pictures, please. grin

I just popped in to say a quick hello, so that I didn't lose you all.

Hope you have all had good weekends. smile

Startail Mon 20-May-13 15:02:25

MedIcaid, lovely to hear your still about in the run up to Wimbledon grin

Startail Mon 20-May-13 15:03:35

MrsVamos I'm going back to the settings menu. Garrett!d

Startail Mon 20-May-13 15:03:56

GRRRRRR

magimedi Mon 20-May-13 15:08:06

I love Wimbledon. DS gets married this Saturday coming & when the wedding was being planned & he said that they were thinking of May or June I did tell him to try not to get married during Wimbledon.

Where do you all congregate to chat about it? (New to MN, only been here 6 months).

Maryz Mon 20-May-13 15:14:40

magi, MrsVamos will have a thread in telly addicts.

With accompanying namechanges and flags nailed to masts. And links to very questionable porn sites.

It's fun.

The French is first though - I wonder do I get that on tv here [ponders]

magimedi Mon 20-May-13 17:13:57

The French (most of which I am going to miss, owing to wedding & then a holiday) is live on ITV4. They did it very well last year, with Jim Courrier (sp?) commentating & he was really good.

ooh tennis. grin I am a great fan of the thighs game.

Maryz Mon 20-May-13 18:31:48

For some reason most ITV4 is blank here confused. ITV2 and 3 come up ok.

The thighs, Scone?

Most of the chaps wear such ridiculously long and baggy shorts, one is lucky to glimpse a flash of well-turned ankle. The average gap 'twixt hem and sock lies in the region of about four inches, damn it all to hell.

It would interesting (from a purely scientific angle, you understand) to research the percentage of body surface area coverage per sporting activity.

Diving must surely top the charts of most exposure - right through to er... ice hockey?

I am quite willing to accept funding to undertake this study. I will need binoculars, a tape measure and a very good camera. With a close-up lens.

grin

I blame Pete Sampras. He was the one that started the whole baggy shorted tennis player madness. Bastard.

Still, it does make it easier to pretend to the dc that I am watching for the game than it was for my mum to convince me when she used to watch jimmy connors

I remember Bjorn Borg's screaming groupies in the seventies.

His shorts weren't far off budgie-smuggler proportions. shock

Well he did well out of them he has his own range of underwear now!

Maryz Mon 20-May-13 19:59:26

I was one of Bjorn Borg's screaming groupies in a quiet unassuming way blush

I remember having a bit of a childish crush on Arthur Ashe as well <shows age>

Scone, I don't think most of the links showed thighs. I managed to find a particularly good one which I now can't find again probably just as well grin

I was such a goody two shoes as a kid. I remember watching Jimmy Connors vs John McEnroe at Wimbledon on tv in what Google tells me was 81 or 82 (so I would have been 7 or 8) and cheering against JM as he was such a bad sport. blush

And and and it led to a crush on JC which led to a lifelong thing about men with flippy hair. sadly dh is now as good as bald and I am bereft

Yes - I used to be shocked and annoyed by McEnroe's tantrums. I was devastated when he beat Borg (whose on-court anger outbursts would consist of a raised eyebrow over a questionable decision).

I really like JM now - great sense of humour and a good addition to the BBC team.

Not The Nine O'Clock News had the measure of McEnroe grin

Maryz Mon 20-May-13 20:30:30

I loved John McEnroe's rebellion. Partly because it was against the "English establishment" - Wimbledon, Henley, Ascot, garden parties in Bucks Palace etc. Being an Irish teenager, my anti-English sentiment went as far as supporting McEnroe shouting at umpires. I was a pathetically unconvincing rebel.

Mantella Mon 20-May-13 20:56:13

I really like McEnroe. He was always such a character and made tennis so much more entertaining. He's also a witty commentator and has a self depreciating sense of humour when the subject turns to players with a temper.

Fiderer Tue 21-May-13 06:48:09

I have some rowers for your delectation:

This fine crew

or do you prefer their predecessors?

I say, lovely togs but I think he may have been ill-advised.

I'm going nowhere. Someone has to correct people when they call Australians rednecks. We're bogans, ta lots.

Also if you're after legs and thighs and the like, here's Nick Nat

Only Jesus knows if that link will work.

I like McEnroe now , he is just the right side of sternly witty. I like Boris Becker's commentary too.

I rather like this image even though it isn't tennis and frankly if Rafa is confident enough to be seen like this, I think he should do it for Wimbledon

Mantella Tue 21-May-13 09:09:41

This thread is becoming a sight for sore eyes grin

Maryz Tue 21-May-13 09:53:53

grin

This thread really has gone downhill.

Fiderer Tue 21-May-13 10:00:08

At least now when someone asks me if I like sports I can truthfully answer "Yes" and mention how I particularly enjoy rowing and cycling.

LineRunner Tue 21-May-13 19:34:54

I used to really fancy Tony Knowles's arse.

Snooker.

Mantella Tue 21-May-13 20:09:40

Snooker. Now that's a possibility I haven't thought of before hmmm ... grin

Stephen Hendry's arse was rather nice back in the day blush Not the rest of him I hasten to add.

Maryz Tue 21-May-13 21:40:28

Nah, not snooker, too many clothes [depraved old letch emoticon]

LineRunner Tue 21-May-13 21:49:36

But the little waistcoats!

Mantella Tue 21-May-13 21:56:19

They like chalking up their cues too wink

LineRunner Tue 21-May-13 22:06:11

And he's getting his leg over to pot the pink, sneaking in there on the back cushion.

LineRunner Tue 21-May-13 22:08:24

Oooh! What a gentle touch there, is this the rise and rise of another great young player?

Mantella Tue 21-May-13 22:27:53

grin

MrsVamos Tue 21-May-13 22:35:14

Oh my goodness are you all making me responsible for the tennis threads ? I shall do my best.

Can't wait for Sunday, coverage starts at 9:30 am, and lasts for hours ! I think they will also be showing a 'highlights of the day show' on ITV1 every evening too.

I plan to tennis-etate from Sunday till September ! grin

LineRunner Tue 21-May-13 22:46:19

Yes, MrsVamos, you get tennis.

Maryz has to host next year's Eurovision (so she need to starts building the thread now, utilising a complex solution of PFI contracts and lottery grants).

I'll do the ping pong.

Maryz Tue 21-May-13 23:01:48

No, I'm not doing Eurovision any more.

In fact, I doubt Ireland will do Eurovision any more. This year was just too much, despite the wine

I could do golf, maybe?

Or maybe not grin

LineRunner Tue 21-May-13 23:24:53

How about planning for the 2014 English Local Elections thread? You, Paxman, Dimbleby, Jeremy Vine, maybe Samantha Brick could pop in with a commentary on local treasury management quarterly outurns.

You know you want to.

Maryz Tue 21-May-13 23:32:46

Will there be naked men?

LineRunner Tue 21-May-13 23:37:23

Yes.

MrsVamos Tue 21-May-13 23:43:55

Ping pong ?

Ping Pong ?

Fair enough. grin

Maryz needs to do rowing threads. We need someone for athletics, I'm sure GetOrf would be more than happy to do the Power Ranger threads (Cycling).

Or Maryz could just start a sports pictures thread. wink

Naked Paxman/Vine/Dimbleby/Brick ? No thanks. I'll give that one a miss.

Maryz Tue 21-May-13 23:46:47

They will be naked politicians though, so not really the same thing at all.

Maryz Tue 21-May-13 23:47:35

Oops, scrap that link. There is a bit too much detail on some of it. Sorry.

MrsVamos Tue 21-May-13 23:48:57

Maryz ! blush

That's why I love you ! grin

Naked politicians is even worse. Who wants to see that, apart from the poor sods that have to ?

LineRunner Wed 22-May-13 00:02:40

Ooh Mrs.

Mantella Wed 22-May-13 00:31:04

Fiderer Thu 23-May-13 06:53:57

I'd like to be a roving eye reporter. Scanning the airwaves for sportsmen worthy of our attention.

I've done rowers already and Talc's mention of the Ashes has evoked the memory of whites, tanned forearms and the glorious sound of leather on willow.

Just wondering which song ITV4 will have for Roland Garros this year. LOVED last years, twas Rizzle Kicks' 'Dreamers'. Great tune.

MaryZ

I wanted to flounce hours after joining, but thanks to you and your kind words I'm here.

I'm not going anywhere!
In less then a year I've achieved so much:
- I have NC twice for fun
- I have made friends
- I have had a thread about me in AIBU thanking me
- I have had a thread of mine deleted by MNHQ
-a thread I started made it to Discussions of the day today

and more importantly
- due to my prompting we now have cake !
(huge thanks to Helen and Techs of course! )

I still need a post of mine deleted due to breaking guidelines and a thread of mine going into Classics would be epic, but so far so good!grin

thanks again! thanks

Zing x

I will never willingly leave I don't think. I name change sporadically, on a whim usually.

I learn so much here.

ZingDollyChops Mon 21-Oct-13 17:20:55

I had a post of mine deleted since I declared my staying forever.
it was a proud moment!grin
