It's not the "casual" British antisemitism, though that does wear me out over time. Those going "what, anti-semitic overtones on Mumsnet? Never!" I kindly refer you to every thread about circumcision on this cunting thing. "No," you protest, "I'm just against religion, in general! And child abuse! Aren't you against child abuse, you monster?" . I tried educating about the blood libel and the way this sort of thing is used, take a look at my past posts, but I'm just tired now. I generally try to steer clear and figured, that's ok, right? I'm tired of being the one Jew in a debate about whether Jews are this or that, the voice piping up. I'll take a rest and I can go on other sections of the site like feminism chat. I love feminism and talking about it!

It's the trans threads. I just can't fucking stand them. Yes, trans women exist and are people, no they are not (insert every horrible trope possible here). Ffs, it's like Mumsnet wants to defend the wrongheaded shit of the eighties against all comers. We've BEEN through this, come out the other side stronger and kinder and realising that helping people who aren't just like us doesn't mean our own cause is failing. It's called intersectional feminism but apparently you didn't get the fucking memo.

Well count me out. I used to come on here for fun and informative chats but it's just turned into everything about the internet I hate - people shouting at me and each other and never trying to listen. Fuck you Mumsnet admins for facilitating this. You act like you're being neutral but is it neutral when friend groups freeze out the victims of abuse because "we can't know whose fault it was"? If you "don't pick a side" then you HAVE picked a side. It's the abusers side. And you know it.

I'm done here.

I'm not really sure what it is you're so mad about but take a break if your heads being done in.

Op I agree with you re the trans threads, there's a lot of transphobic bullshit on here, but I'm afraid I really really can't get behind circumcision for any reason whatsoever other than medical nessicity. I just can't. You can show your adherence to a religion and have traditions without cutting healthy functional bits of infants. Sorry but I just don't agree.

Your post isn't clear but if you support circumcision of babies for religious reasons then I won't miss you.

Babies with intact functioning penises don't need bits of their penises removing without their knowledge or consent.

Men with intact functioning penises aren't women.

Unfortunately, that's very true.

I offered to listen to your thoughts after you called the posters on a thread 'assholes' .I'm still happy to listen, in fact I would love to know your views of the specific points raised on that thread.

Of course trans women are people. They're just not women.

And I don't really care until they get women's awards (you know, displacing women) or touted as being the first female frontline soldier (you know, when actual women can't do that yet), but whatever.

If you don't mind being made invisible, that's up to you.

Toodles!

OP, the awful trans threads are why I pretty much stopped posting and reading here. It's just too much. I had no idea Flouncers' Corner existed or I would have posted here myself ;)

Are we expected to be ok with mutilitating babies for no reason because it's done in the name of religion? Fuck that.

"female frontline soldier (you know, when actual women can't do that yet)"

Point of detail - the rules changed earlier this year and all females can do that.

Way better than the treatment that was handed out to the transitioning para, who was told publicly that he'd gone from hero to zero and banned from reunions.

I'm on quite a few of the trans threads and I didn't recognise your name so I went to have a look. There's a very calm discussion on FWR about the implications for women of the proposed changes in the law to allow anybody to 'self-identify' as male or female.

You came onto the thread, called it a 'bottomless well of hatred' and then called everybody 'assholes'. Nobody shouted at you or each other. I think most posters on those threads are by now used to people who are pro-trans-agenda coming on, calling them a bunch of names, failing to engage in any other way and then flouncing.

It's a shame posters like you can't engage properly because these issues are actually going to affect women's lives in lots of ways, big and small and we'd really like a proper, honest discussion with a range of views.

Oh well, never mind, pretty much the entire rest of the internet censors women when we try to talk about this so I'm sure you'll find somewhere you're happier without much difficulty.

Circumcision? Really not keen, TBH.

And when they've completed training and are ready to serve, they won't be recognised as being first. Because someone who has served for years as a man got in there as first woman too.

Incredible.

Hide the trans threads if you don't like them.

I can't agree with circumcision for non-medical reasons at all.

WinchesterWoman · 18/09/2016 19:14

Find me one thread that says trans people aren't people.

Big flounce because you ran out of arguments?

Doubt it.

First to join will still be a first. And I'm sure the MoD press-wallahs will be on to it.

So that ship has sailed.

ExLtEveDallas posted about this on another thread. She's served in war zones including Kosovo and Iraq and feels really insulted by that army 'first woman' PR boast. And I get why. Maybe a bit more listening is in order - as in, listening to military women?

I don't understand how it is possible to be against FGM without being anti-christian....but it isn't possible to be against circumcision without being anti-semitic.

In both cases lots of people in each religion don't do the thing I am against...and I have no problem with the actions (or religion) of these people. In both cases there are people outside the religion still doing these things for cultural reasons and I am against the actions of those people even though they don't belong to any religion.

So how are either arguments anti-semitic / anti-christian?
