Where the heck have they gone?

I bought 4 Danios from the pet shop today. The tank has cycled for several weeks and all is ready for them to settle in. There are a couple of plastic frondy things and a pump plus a light at the top of the tank.
I put the fish in and went off after watching them swim around a little. I decided i would need to get a further 4 once these have settled.

After an hour or so I went back to the tank and theres only 1 fish swimming around . Ive looked all over and the others are not there.

Any idea where they can have gone. Only me in the house and no other pets.

Have you got a lid on the tank? I had a danio jump out once

Yes there is a lid. But since it was such a mystery I went back and moved everything to check again what was going on.The lid was still in place - but down the side between the tank and wall were 3 very dead little Danio. :(

Seems they all managed to jump out of the tiny little hole along the side of the lid .
