Goldfish alone?

One of my fish has died this morning Sad
Now I'm down to one, fancy tail goldfish. It's a 60l biorb. Will he be ok alone or should I have another in there?

Sorry about your fish. Goldfish do prefer company, but your biorb isn't really suitable for one goldfish so I wouldn't add any more. He will need more space as he grows and more filtration than a biorb can provide. How did the fish die, did he have any symptoms?

Ok, I thought as much - now I know more I realise about the biorb
No, he just sort of folded over on himself and died Sad he would have been maybe 9 years old

That's not a bad age for a fancy goldfish. Their immune systems tend to weaken as they get older.

Have you got the space for a big enough tank for a fancy goldfish? For a pair you would need around 190 litres+, so about 3ft long. Have a look at this for more info. You are by a long way not the first person to be missold goldfish.

There are fish that can live happily in a 60 litre tank. Biorbs aren't that great though because the filters aren't very good, and the surface area and swimming space are limited. You could plant it up and have a few shrimp in there.

Thank you. Any other fish that would be happy in it?
My goldfish seems ok at the moment (except he's now more silver than gold!), just off to grab some food for him and to do a partial water change

If you are planning to keep the goldfish in there then you can't put any other fish in. If you can rehome the goldfish then you could get a heater and a few guppies maybe.

Oh of course, no more thinking for when this one goes
Although I'm sure this is the one that pretended to be dead for an hour and then resurrected himself Grin

If you get a well bred goldfish then they are pretty tough fish.
