Ideas on making the best of a bad situation?

Hello! I am seeking advice again :)

So before I outline the problem, can I make clear that this is not of my making..
A friend gave me a 30l biorb, which I plan to use as a shrimp tank at some point as it's faaaaaar too small for my fish.

However, the biorb has an lonely danio living in it, poor thing :( I know these are social fish, and ideally they need to be kept in a long tank in a group of 6+

I do not have the cash to set up another tank atm, and will probably be moving in a few months anyway so won't be doing any new fishy things till then.

So, my question is - do I leave the poor thing as it is? Or, as my OH suggested, should we get another danio - so we'd have two of them, which might be slightly better in terms of emotional welfare for the next few months with a view to a larger tank move at some point?

Neither option seems brilliant to me to b honest. I can't help but contrast the poor little fish's life with my goldies who have so much more in terms of space and quality of life :(

So, any ideas on what is the least worst idea would be welcome! (I don't know anyone who can rehome - I've tried. All my local fishkeeping friends either have koi, bettas or marine set ups)

Thank you so much for any advice :)

Is there a decent local aquatic store that can rehome it for you?

How about a temporary tank, have you got space? A plastic storage box would be suitable temporarily and then you could get him some friends. You could bung in a some plastic plants and ornaments and not worry about gravel or anything for now so that you could strip it down easily for the move.

I have a staples box that I use as my emergency goldfish accommodation. I suppose we could try and find space for that somewhere.

What do think is the minimum number of danios I can keep? I've never really been interested in this kind of tank set up so am a bit clueless sorry.

I could set up the box and keep a look out for a cheap second tank in the long run.

I don't think rehoming is an option, the local fish shop weren't able to take him.. So I'll work something out.

Thanks Eau Rouge, I appreciate the help :)
