Trying to find the name of a film/song

Hi all I wonder if you could help. I have tried every iteration of this on Google but have had no joy.

I am looking for the name of a film, it's a musical but I have no idea about the plot. It's actually one specific song I am looking for.

It's sang by a male and I think he is on a navy ship. It's American and set in WWII. The song is about how he ended up serving in the navy. The song itself doesn't have many words, much of it is purposefully garbled with key phrasing being the only discernible words (the military doctors pronouncement of 'A1' is the only thing I can remember). I think it's black and white.

If anybody could help it would be greatly appreciated. My Dad (who is now dead) used to call me in to watch the song anytime it was on. That's why I dunno about the rest of the film. It's doing my nut in.

I know its a long shot but I thought I would ask.
Thanks all!

Do you know the singer?

If you can sing the song, you could try singing it to Shazam and seeing if it is recognised?

I have absolutely no singing ability, it's a long running joke. The singer is a film star I recognise but I cannot for the life of me think of any other film he has been in. I have Googled images of "male movie stars 50s" and loads of other combinations but haven't spotted him. Despite this I am sure he was famous. I think he was blonde and not conventionally attractive, at least for the age.

OP, is the musical "South Pacific"?

Unsuccessfully

Just checked, no (thank God how embarrassing if it was).

I am getting to the point where I think I have dreamed it or misremembered one key thing.

Up in Arms...

Danny Weems works as an elevator operator in a New York Medical building, so that he can be close to doctors and nurses and get free advice on his supposed illnesses. The doctors know him well and consider him a hypochondriac. So when he is drafted into the US Army for war service, he is devastated. His best friend Joe gets himself also drafted so that he can keep an eye on Danny.

THANK YOU!

OhNoNotMyBaby

It's Up In Arms. The song is 'Melody for 4-F'

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this. Thank you everybody for trying to help. As soon as I saw "Danny Kaye" on the thread I knew that was him.

That's the song, I can't find it from the film.

Much love all.
