Just been with the kids.

Cast to die for. Really wanted to love it (hence going before reading anything about it)

No pace, pointless first 15 minutes wasted. Ticked off all the catchphrases except they didn't manage to get 'don't tell 'im Pike' in there.

I loved knowing that Warmington on Sea was Lymington and the New forest in the original series, and I really knew this one was Yorkshire and not the south coast.

I love Toby Jones and Bill Nighy though

Anyone else seen it?

Yes today.

DH very happy with it, me less so.

Toby Jones was brilliant. And bloody hell -,Godrey, what's his name Confused, he was fab.

Lacked for me as I loved Dads Army, and this was a different vibe, but would rather have seen it than not.

Despite its many faults, we really enjoyed it. Thrilled to see the original Vicar and Ian Lavender playing the Brigadier(?). Easily thrilled me

Pedant's corner - "don't tell 'im Pike" was not a catch phrase, it was only said once on the show but is well and fondly remembered. "Stupid boy" and "doomed" etc were catch phrases

Oh I know but it really is one of the best episodes ;-)

We have been today. Dc loved it (dd and dh big fans of the original series) it's predictably funny but quite a gentle family film. I now have an even bigger crush on Bill Nighy though Blush

Went with DH and DS 20 and really enjoyed it mainly for the nostalgia. However DS has never really seen the original programme, however he did see the play on BBC on how the series originated and as I have family in Thetford where it was originally filmed, has been to the museum, so not totally unfamiliar, but he also laughed out loud a few times and said he enjoyed it.
A agree the cast were excellent and really caught the mannerisms and the voices of the original cast.

For me the standout performance was Toby Jones - that guy is a fucking genius. Almost worth seeing just for him alone. And he didn't borrow from the series at all - you can see it's just what he's put into the character.

We went so see it today, dd's (9&11) thought it was hilarious, the 11 year old is a big fan of the original series.
I enjoyed it too, was impressed with the cast, Godfrey was brilliant!

We said to each other that it was nice to see a film with NO swearing or sex that isn't a cartoon!
