2016 Academy Awards - The Oscar nominations are out!

News just in from Hollywood! Exciting times for film lovers, the 2016 Academy Awards are just weeks away and the nominations have been announced.

We've put together a list of the nominees in the main categories and would love to hear your reactions. Are your favorites up there or are you disappointed?

I'm thrilled to see Mad Max has so many nominations, I really was expecting it to be completely snubbed come awards season. I'm not sure how many it will win but having the second largest number of nominations is an achievement in itself.

Obviously I'd love to see it win all of them but particularly Cinematography, Editing, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Visual Effects.

I'm also very pleased that Ex Machina is in there, really hoping that wins Original Screenplay.

Lastly, would love to see Star Wars get Original Score.

I'm quite annoyed Tarantino was snubbed for Best Original Screenplay, but the Academy have never really rated him so it's not a surprise. Ennio Morricone fully deserves to win Original Score though, his work was sublime. I'm hoping Jennifer Jason Leigh picks up Best Supporting Actress but I'm not holding my breath.

Baffled Idris Elba didn't get a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Beasts of No Nation - he deserved it more than half the actors in his category.

Glad to see Charlotte Rampling being recognised after being snubbed by Bafta, though I think we all know Brie Larson is going to win - haven't seen Room yet so can't comment about her performance.

Really hoping it's Leo's year at last, he's the most deserving nominee in Best Actor - my second pick would be Bryan Cranston.

Good to see Fury Road and The Martian getting recognition too. I'd love for George Miller to pick up Best Director but everyone in that category is quite deserving.

I've seen all but one of the Best Picture nominees (Room). I'm not sure I could pick - I think The Big Short is probably the most deserving - every minute of it was fascinating and so well edited. The only quibble I would have is that Christian Bale was probably the weaker of about three actors in it - he was good but not that good. Brooklyn I loved, really loved. Spotlight was excellent as well and I'm delighted that Rachel McAdams got a nomination - I said in the BAFTA nomination thread that I thought she was excellent in a less showy role than Mark Ruffalos.

I wasn't fussed on Mad Max Fury Road, maybe I wasn't in the mood for it, but I found it a bit meh, Bridge of Spies I found very disappointing. I felt like I'd seen it about five times before. The Revenant was amazing to watch, it was beautifully thought out, shot and all of the actors were good. I'm not the biggest fan of Leonardo di Caprio but there are a couple of scenes in it that he is amazing in, he'd break your heart so I hope it's his year. If it is it wouldn't be a pity vote iykwim, he'd really deserve it.

I'm really disappointed that Sicario didn't get a nod for Director, supporting Actor and I think Emily Blunt probably had the stand out female role in any film this year - she really should have at least been nominated.

I think Leo has the Best Actor award in the bag. He's due. Hard to believe he's been around for 20 years now.

And I think Sly will be a sentimental win for Creed.

Leonardo should of got it for What's Eating Gilbert Grape, that really was an amazing performance.

I've not seen The Revenant, it is annoying that you seem to get rewarded for doing a role that is OTT in a physical way and not for a more understated and subtle acting role though.

Boycott has been organised due to the lack of diversity. Just saw segment on breakfast TV. Not only nobody of colour, no lgbt or (and I accept this is still far more rare in film and television and shouldn't be) anyone that has a disability. Shocking!

There was a smaller boycott movement last year and it did affect their ratings. Jada pinkett smith is boycotting. Sure she will get accusations of doing so due to Will not getting a nomination. But she and Will often speak about and campaign for better representation of minorities in the industry.

I think it's strange to pass judgement on Leo's performance in The Revenant without having seen it But I agree he should have won for What's Eating Gilbert Grape, an amazing performance at such a young age.

The Academy have form for messing up and rewarding actors at a later date - Colin Firth is the best recent example. He should have won when he was nominated for A Single Man in 2009 over Jeff Bridges - and I love Jeff Bridges! The next year he won for The King's Speech, which was (like all of Hooper's films) the most trite piece of Oscar bait going. Ironically, I think 2010's Oscar should have gone to Jeff Bridges or Javier Bardem. But that's by the by.

I don't think the #Oscarssowhite boycott will achieve much in terms of the Academy which has always favoured a certain type of actor and film, but I hope it's the start of bigger changes - so much has been said in the last few years and no changes are actually been made. Lee also mentioned about the need for much bigger change in the industry - it's difficult for non-white actors to even get in a room when it comes to the kind of projects that win at the Oscars.

As I said earlier, Idris Elba should have definitely been nominated for Beasts of No Nation. It baffles me that Hollywood still seems reluctant to take him seriously. I think Sam Jackson should have been nominated for The Hateful Eight too, he was brilliant.

Looking forward to Chris Rock cutting everyone down to size on the night. I still fondly remember the joke he made in 2012 when presenting the award for Best Animated Movie

Leo will win Best Actor, Sylvester Stallone Best Supporting Actor and Brie Larson for Best Actress.
