Kids fallen in love with Ponyo, but don't know what else we should get. Have seen Arrietty too. They are 9,6,6. Any recommendations?

Yep, Totoro, Howls, Spirited Away. Avoid Princess Mononoke for a bit, quite violent.

Thanks...are any of them scarier than others? Ds1 and dd can be a bit sensitive!

Totoro is our favourite, and Kiki's Delivery Service (neither are scary)

Another vote for Totoro. My favourite film!

Oooh thanks. Gonna record Spirited Away. That's where we saw Ponyo and the kids have watched it 3x in a week! (Too much rain this summer).

Poor ds1 screaming, "Turn it off, Mum! It's horrible!" Other 2 are engrossed so it's stayed on, and now he's back to to it.

totoro and kiki, are a LOT less freaky deaky than Spirited Away (which my 9 year old dd won't watch)

Grave of the Fireflies is supposed to be very good but also very sad. Better for older Children maybe. I have the film, not watched it yet though.

My two found Spirited Away quite scary at first. And there is no way I'm showing them Princess Mononoke or Grave of the Fireflies yet (hell, I don't think I will be watching that again for a while :()

The Cat Returns is sweet, I've got that put away for Xmas, and my DCs are currently obsessed with Castle of Cagliostro as I bought it the other day! Watched it 3 days in a row :o

If you don't mind subtitles (my DD can just about keep up, DS can't read well enough yet but he still enjoys watching them as you can pick up the story visually) then the King and the Mockingbird is fab. It was apparently an inspiration to Miyazaki, who is behind a lot of the Ghibli films. Also Ernest et Celestine is adorable :)

Thanks v much for slightly less scary suggestions. Dd gave up after 45 mins bless her, "This movie is like a nightmare..." (I agreed). They finished Ponyo (again).

It's a bit freaky that's for sure! :o

[whispers] there's an anime fans chat thread on this board if anyone's interested... Blush

Definitely avoid grave of the fireflies, not for kids at all that one.

Look at The Cat Returns, Panda Go Panda, Kiki Delivery Service

My 7yo must be pretty hardcore then. He loves Spirited Away. Even the freaky bits in Tales from Earthsea didn't bother him.

You might want to give Howls a miss too perhaps. It's got a few freaky bits but not as much as spirited away

Oh yes of course Panda Go Panda!

Anyone who likes Grave of the Fireflies, I'd recommend Giovanni's Island as well.

I do generally check out anime films before letting the DCs watch them as the content isn't so predictable as say a Disney movie. DD is pretty sensitive.

I'd also avoid Pom Poko... I love the message behind it, but seeing raccoons with expanding bollocks just doesn't do it for me Hmm

And avoid My Neighbours the Yamadas too. Because it's rubbish. IMHO.

My 3 & 4 yo's adore Totoro, I have most of the Studio Ghibli films but this is the one they always go for. Castle in the sky is very good too.

Strangely drawn to Spirited Away. They are watching it this evening! Perhaps it's less harrowing the second time.

My 8 year old's favourite film is Princess Mononoke, it's pretty grim but I think that's why he likes it!

Kiki and Tortoro are nice ones. I love them all.

I try to pretend that Pom Poko doesn't exist. It's just too weird

Laputa is the best. By miles. Maybe not for really small ones though
