So, just signed up to Lovefilm. What films or tv series would you recommend? Not massively keen on action films but will watch most other genres.

I prefer tv series to films and would recommend:

West Wing
The Good Wife
Sex and the City
Studio 60 on the sunset strip
Parenthood (the series)
Mad Men

Happy watching : )

In terms of comedy, gotta give Arrested Development or 30 Rock a buzz.

Other great series include Firefly, The Wire, Cranford and Game of Thrones!

The first couple of series of Being Human are fantastic. We haven't followed it since series 4, but series 1-3 were great.

Also really recommend Fringe. It's like a mixture between CSI and The X-Files. First series it is kind of finding it's feet but by second series it really florishes.

House is my current favourite tv show. There are 8 series to get through so should keep you busy for a while.

Excuse me, but I can't help noticing that all the television you're recommending is American. Really?

In fact, I'm particularly intrigued that GilmoreGirl included The West Wing.

American horror series
The Walking Dead
True Blood

Some British comedy to help out our perturbed American poster, I do rather like American series myself

Black Books

British horror series that are brilliant, they are on love film because I checked.

Afterlife is a non glamourous, quite brutal and far superior kind of Ghost Whisperer. No soft porn type wandering around in a Lacy nightie which is what happens far too much in ghost whisperer, put a dressing gown on woman!

Sea of Souls, set in the parapsychology unit of a Scottish university, Bill Patterson is in it.

British Comedy films

Hot Fuzz
The Ladykillers
Passport to Pimlico
Shaun of the Dead

If you want to actually scare yourself try The Descent, British horror, main cast all women. Ass kicking and death abound.

Game of Thrones
Prison Break
