Any suggestions?

I was thinking Natasha Walter's Living Dolls: The return of sexism

or

Catherine Redfern & Kristin Aune Reclaiming the F Word: The New Feminist Movement

hi. i'd like to join if that's ok.

StewieGriffinsMom Mon 02-Aug-10 13:25:27

Its open to everyone and everyone gets a vote on the books. We are a collective. smile

Prolesworth Mon 02-Aug-10 13:36:30

Sorry I completely missed the last one in the end

I'm a bit snowed under with study at the moment so may have to skip the next one. At some point I'd love to do a work of fiction though

Not read either but def interested. Will try to check them out before you decide but happy to be guided.

i'd like to read living dolls - amazon has a 'look inside' facility for it and it does look very interesting and contemporary.

Both look good to me.

Pogleswood Tue 03-Aug-10 12:59:08

I'd prefer Living Dolls.
Did you have any ideas on which work of fiction to read ,Prolesworth?

Prolesworth Tue 03-Aug-10 13:12:47

Maybe Charlotte Perkins Gilman, or something more contemporary - not necessarily 'feminist fiction' either. I'm going to have to sit August's bookclub out but will follow the discussion with interest as always

Will vote for Living Dolls because I already have it!

StewieGriffinsMom Tue 03-Aug-10 14:30:02

Living Dolls it is then [mostly because i'm already reading it and its fabulous so far]

So how does Wednesday August 25 work for people?

TeddyBare Tue 03-Aug-10 14:51:31

I've just finished Living Dolls and loved it. Looking forward to discussing it.

how does it work, if that's not a silly question? do you all meet up in real life or is it an online thing that anyone can join? (half way through living dolls, trying to jolt brain out of maternity leave torpor)

StewieGriffinsMom Wed 04-Aug-10 19:48:03

Its an online meet-up for everyone. You can join us on the Wednesday night at 9 or post your thoughts before/after. All questions/thoughts/anecdotes are welcome

I am hoping to get tickets to see Natasha Walter at a book festival on the 17th so will hopefully post some notes on that before book club.

So it is Living Dolls? Am doing the UK citizenship test and am so bored in August, so will be good to look forward to discuss something smile

StewieGriffinsMom Wed 04-Aug-10 22:51:06

I think so. Most of us are already reading or just finished it.

cool. i shall order it now then smile

StewieGriffinsMom Wed 04-Aug-10 23:50:52

Bumping! 3 weeks to order Living Dolls from Amazon!

i just ordered it on super saver 3-5 days. did i get the last one or something?

NickOfTime Thu 05-Aug-10 00:14:58

will order living dolls - can't promise to log on due to timezone differences, but hopefully will manage to be around. look forward to reading the thread even if i miss it smile

StewieGriffinsMom Thu 05-Aug-10 07:57:50

Please contribute even if you can't make the actual time!

Prolesworth Thu 05-Aug-10 09:00:07

Not read the yellow wallpaper yet but I have it on my massive teetering To Read pile - it might be a good one for a future book club
