On moodgym there's a section where you have to write down every day for a week what you did that was only for you. That's the point I gave up.

So I'm starting it here and I hope you'll join me - please don't leave me floundering!

Right now - I am going for a quick walk. Will update when it's done.

Swoopdewoop Mon 28-Apr-14 21:04:45

No takers? Maybe tomorrow?

Walk was nice. I forced myself to go slowly. Realisedthat on other walks I'd been going fairly fast, partly to feel I'd exercised, partly to get it over with. Ambling was ok. Hasn't given me a massive boost or anything. Will try again tomorrow.

bigoldbird Mon 28-Apr-14 21:11:46

Do you mind if I join you Swoopdewoop?

I recently went on a CBT course, and I am supposed to do 5 things just for me every week.

Can't actually think of anything I have done so far, but am working on it.

I did have a long hot bubbly bath last night, so that could be the first one.

I also booked a week's leave from work when nobody else is off, so I can be in the house on my own, pottering around by myself and doing exactly what I want to do. DH knows I have done this, but no-one else.

Hmm. That's a couple of things then.

What are you planning tomorrow?

Swoopdewoop Mon 28-Apr-14 21:24:38

Hi bigoldbird I'd love if you joined me! I don't feel so lonely now.smile

I think the bath definitely counts. I might do that tomorrow actually. If this thread takes off, we can inspire each other. smile

Also, a week pottering on your own sounds bliss. Sounds like you're making real progress, that's fab. Oh hell, have another smiley smile

SilverStars Mon 28-Apr-14 23:34:16

Hi I had a short walk out just before sunset which was much needed me-time. What a good thread!

yegodsandlittlefishes Mon 28-Apr-14 23:38:02

I went for a run and found a new route on pavements/safe surfaces.

I watched a couple of TV programmes I like, on my own.

I walk the dogs in the park every morning and stop for a mocha at the cafe. It's understood that during that hour my phone is firmly switched off smile.

BigPawsBrown Mon 28-Apr-14 23:46:23

Id like to join! I have grazia in bed, does that count? My job is so busy I do struggle hmm

LastingLight Tue 29-Apr-14 05:35:35

Yesterday I lay in bed reading a book when I should have been studying / doing laundry... and I enjoyed it.

I'd like to join please!

Yesterday I left work at lunch to go to the bank, was nice to get out and I had a browse in a lovely clothes shop, tried some things on but didn't buy.

Today I'm not sure - possibly a walk in the woods.

rabbitrisen Tue 29-Apr-14 09:06:16

Nice thread. Am bumping.
Very important to look after ourselves.

Swoopdewoop Tue 29-Apr-14 16:51:42

I loved reading these!

Today I bought a take away coffee and sat in the park to write. Discovered there are toilets there, whoopee, major win. Feeling so much better.

Anyone else? smile

yegodsandlittlefishes Tue 29-Apr-14 17:09:01

I felt really tired earlier. I made myself lie down and take a 10 minute nap. I don't know if that counts, but it was just what I needed!

ginorwine Tue 29-Apr-14 17:55:01

Hello . Good stuff! Mine is sitting in bed mumsnetting ! smile

Swoopdewoop Tue 29-Apr-14 18:02:05

yegods that totally counts!

ginorwine can't imagine what that's like at all, no no no smile

LastingLight Tue 29-Apr-14 19:06:52

I just had a block of high quality, locally made dark chocolate... and then I had another one. smile

BigPawsBrown Tue 29-Apr-14 19:55:14

I just left the office... Going to have a bubble bath with grazia magazine smile

Nice idea. Something just for me? Tricky! I've had a busy day... but... well I guess going to counselling was for me, tho not exactly a treat! when dcs in bed sat in front of Revenge with some chocolate smile

Not much today but managed to catch up with an old work colleague over lunch, which was lovely.

Swoopdewoop Wed 30-Apr-14 11:20:35

Mine for today is major. I have logged out of facebook. grin

I hope I can last hmm

Think I will also go for a walk AND have been inspired by previous posters to have CHOCOLATE. Yum!

yegodsandlittlefishes Wed 30-Apr-14 11:39:08

Drove to a nice park for my run today. It was lovely. Went a bit out of my way to pick up some pate for my lunch (no one else in my family likes it and I've been missing it).

I'm walking home eating a Magnum [smile ]

Swoopdewoop Thu 01-May-14 13:49:47

Hi everyone, hope you're all finding something lovely for yourselves today. I'm lighting a lovely scented candle to keep me company while I work. And maybe a decaff coffee and some chocolate as well. smile

yegodsandlittlefishes Thu 01-May-14 14:08:18

Just fixed myself a peppered mackerel salad sandwich. Delivious! grin

LastingLight Thu 01-May-14 15:07:02

Took a break from studying to go and ride my horse, and off to see a movie with DH soon.

Walked through a bluebell wood and ate some marzipan smile

Victrix Thu 01-May-14 22:17:51

This is a lovely idea smile

I worked on a jigsaw puzzle for a while- not sure if it counts as only for me though as the cat helped grin

Queenofknickers Thu 01-May-14 22:21:53

This is a great idea - please may I join? Today I sent an email to an old friend arranging to meet up which will make me happy

The family are in bed and I've just been curled up in an armchair with a sleepy pup on my lap, eating paella, drinking ginger tea and watching Derek.

Swoopdewoop Fri 02-May-14 09:36:34

I haven't thought of anything yet today but I do love reading about everyone else's 'me-time.'

Went to the doctor to get a hormonal skin issue sorted out. Had Eton mess at lunch

yegodsandlittlefishes Fri 02-May-14 19:49:50

Went for a run in a lovely park, had a coffee at cafe in park after and then walked to another cafe in another park for lunch, with DH.

Victrix Fri 02-May-14 21:48:53

A rather epic bubble bath.

Swoopdewoop Sat 03-May-14 00:54:25

I like the thought of an epic bubble bath grin]

I had a meander in a charity shop and bought some books.

Swoopdewoop Sat 03-May-14 00:54:54

Tomorrow I wil have a crash course on smilies.

Swoopdewoop Sat 03-May-14 00:55:07

or smileys.

Victrix Sat 03-May-14 23:31:01

I watched a lot of TV today, and drank a lot of tea.

Swoopdewoop Sun 04-May-14 20:35:21

I've slept so much this weekend, haven't had time to fit anything else in blush

YeGodsAndLittleFishes Sun 04-May-14 21:20:28

Made myself a rather good cucumber drink and sat watching Pearl Harbour, having spent most of the day giving the conservatory a good clear out and clean.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes Mon 05-May-14 21:14:32

How is everyone?

My main kindness was to not have high expectations of bank holiday Monday. Still managed a run this morning.

Victrix Mon 05-May-14 21:35:29

I bought shoes and a swimsuit for my holiday. I like buying from Asos because they ship via DPD who give you a one-hour delivery time - means I can prepare for the door blush

Looking forward to them turning up tomorrow!

Swoopdewoop Sun 11-May-14 13:18:04

Hi everyone, hope you're all well. I've had family staying and had a busy week, hence no updates from me.

But today I am still in my pjs and just had a lovely smoked salmon cream cheese bagel. Will go for a walk later as well - I find it really calming.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes Sun 11-May-14 13:25:51

Hey, great to see you! smile

I was going to keep adding to the thread but I read in your op that this was for a 'week' so I held back from adding too much.

I sat/pottered and listened to Radio 4 all morning. smile

Pasithea Sun 11-May-14 13:28:46

I'm a bit. Confused with all this. I unfortunately due to a very serious illness have all the time in the world to do these things but it does nothing for me so I think I'm a bit opposite , I know I'm depressed but I can't seem to get any joy from these things mmmmmm. Sorry to hijack the post, I think I may be just a wee bit jealous of those who are a bit rushed off their feet. Soz. X

Swoopdewoop Sun 11-May-14 14:00:07

Hi YeGods - great to see you too! smile Your morning sounds nice - a bit more productive than mine! You've reminded me I've got a couple of plants to pot this afternoon and I'll enjoy that too, thanks!

Hi Pasithea. No need to apologise at all. I'm sorry you're not well and I understand that none of these things do anything for you. I've been dealing with depression and anxiety for a long time but only on meds since last year. I'm by no means an expert but I have learned that I had to be in the right place before I could see any joy in everyday things - and actually, sometimes it's still really hard, but this thread is something concrete to hold on to and helps inspire me when I'm not in the mood. Not always, but it's something.

Another thing I learned was that a bar of chocolate or whatever wouldn't really work for me personally, but what does sometimes work is doing something that I'll feel good about after, even though it wouldn't straight off seem like a 'treat', IYSWIM. So perhaps putting a picture on the wall would work, because even though it would seem like a chore at the time, I'd get a lot of enjoyment from it afterwards.

I think the key is to figure out what works for each of us, given our individual circumstances. Do you have go-to techniques to help you when you're low?

Swoopdewoop Sun 11-May-14 14:02:57

Also Pasithea, there's great support from the ladies on the village thread. Everyone has different things to cope with but the one thing they all have in common is empathy for each other, so maybe even posting there would count as a thing you do just for yourself? In fact, maybe even you could count your post on this thread as a first step to doing something just for yourself? Sorry if I sometimes come across as a bot Polly-Anna ish. blush

Swoopdewoop Sun 11-May-14 14:04:06

NB I don't mean maybe even you could

I mean you could even maybe....

blush

Swoopdewoop Tue 13-May-14 22:00:10

Jeez, 4 posts in a row, how blush making.

But anyway, today I went into an ice cream shop without children and asked for a 99. And then I ate it, knowing my LOs were in school and nursery. I think I was a little too excited in the ice cream shop. grin

What's anyone else been doing for themselves? All nice things, I hope.smile
