Mental health

first appt with psychiatrist tomorrow...horribly nervous

as title really, gp referred to psych after pnd diagnosis as gp not comfortably prescribing for a breastfeeding patient, and low dose of sertraline she would prescribe not working that well. Also lots of side effects.

Am very nervous about psych appt, what they will want to talk about etc. Feel like walking into psych unit means having a label of "crazy" (realise thats irrational and rather silly, but thats how I feel tonight)

Can anyone tell me what to expect and help me feel a little calmer about the morning?

Hi runnybottom

First of all. Well done for getting help. You are now on the road to recovery.

One thing to note with psychiatrists - they are not God, they do not know everything. They are very medication-focused.

Probably will ask a bit about your history, how long symptoms been going on, any thoughts of harming yourself etc.

I have been to many psychiatric appointments now and have gone through all the feelings of intimidation etc. I try not to let them worry me now. Just be honest about how you are feeling.

I hope they find you something that can help you, whilst allowing you to carry on breast feeding.

Hope it goes well

hi Get down, thanks for asking!
It was really good, he was lovely, very kind and asked lots of questions. I'm to change to paroxetine but not for a few weeks (exams coming up, too much change at the same time mught kill me!), and he gave me xanax for if I have any more panic attacks.
feeling very positive today after it, and going to see him again in 6 weeks.

thanks
