Hi
I started taking sertraline on Friday and I feel so much better already. I was under the impression it took a few weeks for anti depressants to work. Has anyone else felt better almost as soon as they started taking them.
Thanks

Could be the 'placebo effect', they are not actually 'working' yet, but you feel better because the act of taking a pill has psychologically given you a lift in mood.

When I started on ad's I felt a bit weird within 3 hours and more relaxed within a few days. My HV said this can happen but gp's tell you it takes longer as for most people it does and they don't want loads of people coming straight back saying the pills aren't working. I actually started feeling normal after 2-3 weeks.

My doctor says that they work within a few days for anxiety, but take 2 weeks for the depression.

Thanks. I wondered if it was a placebo effect as I felt so much better after starting meds. Hope I keep feeling like this, so much better than I have felt recently.
