Narcissistic mother

Hi all, I'm new to MN and have only had a few posts. I've just discovered my mother is a narcissist. It's like a lightbulb has gone off and I suddenly realise WHY things were like they were. I was never physically abused - thankfully - but have so much negative memories, feelings and thoughts swimming round in my head as a result.

In the shock of it all I actually feel calm and centred, like it's the missing piece of the jigsaw. I don't hate my mother, if anything its added pity. I understand now. But does anyone have any advice on how to let go of all these negative memories and feelings? I know I need to do this for my own healing.

Thanks guys, read the link. Ooo that's my mum. Think my problem is counteracting my negative thoughts with positive ones.

I'll get the toxic book too.

This was fascinating reading, and so true! What on earth makes someone like that, I only hope I don't turn out the same with my children!
