Run out of citalopram.... Feel great but will it last?

I am on 40 mg and have missed nearly a week as I am too busy to get to the doctors.

But I feel absolutely fantastic. I suspect to come of them like that would be disastrous and I will 'crash' but it feels so good to feel normal.

Has anyone experienced this?

Also did you find they acted as a libido suppressant?, because I am a hormonal volcano at the moment

Apparently they have a long 'half life' compared with some other a-ds, so it takes them a long time to work totally out of your system. When I have come off them abruptly I have had some physical effects (not huge but unpleasant) but no mood effects for quite a long time and then (I'm afraid) I crashed somewhat. Perhaps you will be absolutely fine fingers crossed. But it would be better to talk to GP.

And by the way, diff a-ds have that libido effect for different people: it might very well be worth changing to another a-d in the hope that it won't supress libido. Best wishes.

I would be worried about coming off without weaning - if you have taken them for longer than 8 weeks then you will need to come off gradually. you could be in a false sense of security currently due to the drugs half life holding you - if you crash in a few days you might struggle to get well again without taking the meds. sorry to sound harsh but I did cold turkey once and really suffered.
please have a chat with your gp/pharmacist - you could change to a different drug if libido is an issue too x

I was on 20mg of Cit btu did what you did.. ran out and thought I Felt ok so just didn't go back to doctors

I was on them for about 6-7 months at a guess
I didn't crash or have any come down effects but, like I said, I was on half your dose. might be worth talking to GP on phone and just explaining how you feel. I suspect he might say carry on and come back if you starting feeling like you need to.

That's pretty much what my GP said when I next saw him.

Think I will talk to GP....

As I am 'single' in a manner of speaking, not an all bad thing to have libido supressed!!

I just feel like 'me' IYSWIM and had almost forgotten who I was... (hormones included)

Will talk to docs and maybe it is the right time to come off them properly as I don't want to lose this. I just feel so alive.

Thanks though...

DP was on 30mg for about 4 months, he took himself off them because he thought he was better. I thought it was a stupid idea but it worked out in the end. His depresion did have particular exterior cues though (stuff at work), and during the time he was on the ADs he had finished his PhD so was no longer working there.

That's not advice either way, I know, and so not terribly helpful, but in general I think it would be better to decide to come off them (ideally after dicussing with doctor) rather than just stopping the pills because you're busy.

But good luck and I hope you can stop taking them and continue feeling good.
