Anyone lost weight when coming off Anti-depressants?

Have been on 20mg of Citalopram for nearly two years. However, I've been cutting down gradually - one every two nights and now one every three nights.

I'm sure I'm starting to shrink even though have not changed my eating habits and actually have had a bad cold recently and so have stopped the exercise I was doing.....not that I'm complaining about shrinking you understand but just wondered if it was down to the AD's?

Anyone?

not personal expereince but it is something I have heard of. ADs can effect your appetite and cause weight gain when you start them so wouldn't it mean you lost when you came off them?

google is good for this stuff - hang on....

found this on discussion board:

"Hi! Weird and at the same time good thing happened to me and I would gladly share my experience with you. Three weeks after going off Paxil, my appetite went back to normal and I lost pounds I gained while taking this medicine. I suppose I was lucky! Or maybe it?s just the way it goes!!! I don?t have any explanation!"

BBee - thanks for that My appetite is bigger since I've been on the ADs but I sort of put that down to my tummy being used to big portions when I was pg as was very hungry while pg...didn't really link it to ADs iywim?

I've also found that I lose weight very slowly, if at all since I've been on the ADs and I never had that problem before as never been a yo yo dieter....am almost afraid to hope its coming off the ADs that is doing it!!! I measured my hips today and have lost two inches off them!! Scales arent showing too much of a loss at the moment though but they do say to look at your clothes and I wore a pair of size 16 trousers yesterday that were too tight a few weeks ago!

it sounds like you have done brilliant things in loads of areas and i hope coming off the ADs continues to go smoothly (and on a more shallow note I hope the weight loss goes well too!)

I lost about half a stone within weeks of coming off mine and had been eating just the same all the way through. Someone told me it was because they made you retain more water. I don't know if that's true mind you, just was glad to have the result!
