feeling really bad about this! And already worrying!

I have suffered really bad depression over the last 7 yrs following the birth of my DD! I have to say now Im not actually depressed but deeply unhappy, unsettle and unnerved about what is going on right now. Since the end of Nov I have received regular CBT for my phobia on sickness, it has reall helped and I am really moving on in the right direction. The trouble is I have found that my therapist is the best I have ever had, and I really don't want to lose her and next week is my last app. I have told her how I feel, and bless her heart she allowed me to have extra sessions. But I know that when I say goodbye next week thats it! Im really worried how I will cope, when i know that Im seeing her I feel that I can cope with anything.

Does anyone else feel like this when they leave therapy?

oh bubble I empathise entirely. It is so hard finishing a relationship with a therapist. All I can suggest is, if you feel you are not ready to stop for now, and it HAS to stop, then tell her you dont feel you are ready and find out how to get more sessions eg another referral rfrom the GP.

However, sometimes we have to learn to live apart from the 'crutches' and we can only learn to do that, but doing it IYKWIM.

Sorry that is probably no help whatsover...

Is it definitely your last session next week, bubble?

You are dealing so much better with your phobia now, and that is all your doing! You can always go back if things get bad, remember that.

well I think so, I did try and mention what I would like and that was to tailor it off but not sure she was up to this- Bloody NHS

I think it is difficult to move on, as with a good therapist you are having regular contact with someone who is not only empathetic but also seems to completely "get" where one's fears/disordered thought processes are coming from. It is however part of the CBT ethos that therapy should only be time limited. Explain to her how you feel, I am sure she will be used to being asked about this. As PC says, if things really go tits up in future, you would be able to be referred back to her I would have thought.

I think the trouble stems here that I had to wait 9mths to see her, and now I have her(very selfishly) I dont want to give her up!

You often don't get much choice with NHS counselling, that's the problem!
My counsellor managed to give me an extra 6 weeks over what is meant to be the max, during my last lot of sessions - but that was because things were so badly up in the air. She also had to get permission from my GP to enable me to have extra sessions.
From what I can make out, they seem to have tightened up more now.

You will be ok though, bubble. You have come a long way since starting your sessions & that won't go away just because your counsellor isn't there every week...you have done it yourself!!

Hi losty.

See how you go, bubble, and if you really panic, you know you can go back to your GP & be put on the waiting list for more sessions.

I dont know anything about counselling, but im pretty sure most people would feel like this. Mention to your counsellor and she may be able to help. There may be a next satge, such as a support group, or phone counselling etc

I am a bit embarrassed about round number three, I must say! The first thing I did when I walked into her room, was say "Really sorry you've got me back!!"
