Racing heart

Hi all, I'm desperately looking for some advice . For the past few weeks my heart has been racing mostly during the night and I can't sleep. The last week it's been happening during the day, but today I've had it since yesterday evening. If I went to the dr is there anything they can give me to relax it? My mind is racing , and I'm spending hours during the night thinking through some really random things from the past and convincing myself of various outcomes.

Background - I've had various amounts of anxiety as long as I can remember. I went to see the dr about ten years ago and was prescribed an anti depressant and some cbt. The anti depressants made me feel drunk and as I had a young DC I knocked them off,and the cbt was pretty useless. I've managed ever since just keeping the thoughts inside and trying to carry on as normal on the outside.
I have another DC (3) and a lovely dh ,a semi stressful part time job which is flexible and I enjoy, my perfect home and family support. I have an elderly relative who I help care for and it's breaking my heart how poorly she is. My older ds is not having a great time at school and I feel a lot of guilt about his early years and how low I felt. I don't feel depressed now But the last month this anxiety is paralysing me.
It's ruining the lovely life I should be leading Sad I feel like a horrible person and a rubbish mum.
Is there anything I can do to help?
Thank you for reading

I've found meditation helpful with my anxiety theres an app called headspace which is very good. I'm also finding councelling helpful and my councellor has taught me a techneque called EFT (emotional freedom techneque ) which I'm also finding helpful.

Thank you for replying Flowers maybe I could look into meditation. I do struggle to relax. I don't know about counselling ..I don't know that I have anything to talk about which would help me now. I'll look at eft though.

I've also found meditation helpful and used the headspace app too. There are some nice guided meditations on you tube too. Some days I find the guided meditations better, particularly if my mind is racing.

Beta blockers can be helpful for some people. I didn't find them helpful but I have a friend who has had more success with them.

Exercise works for me. I used to run and found that brilliant for my mental health. Unfortunately my knees couldn't take it and I've now put on too much weight, but a brisk 2 hour walk with the dog on a bad day can really help me.

I hope you find some relief.

Hi Shuntell,

Sorry you are having such a hard time. You might get better responses starting your own thread. I've found meditation in the morning reduces my anxiety during the day. I also find exercise useful.
