Resisting the urge to self harm

Sorry another thread from me Blush

I haven't self harmed in a long time and I don't want to start again. U have been feeling really stressed lately and keep getting urges to pick up a razor and cut myself.

I keep trying to focus on my breathing to calm myself down because I know I will regret it if I cut but I feel like I need to hurt myself Sad

Is there a way to take my mind off this? Or something I can do instead of self harm?

Sorry you're feeling like this. What normally works for you? Would calling the Samaritans help?

Have you got a car? You could go to a 24hour supermarket and walk around (this was a friend's favourite distraction method). Dvd's/Netflix/bad tv? Start a provocative thread about parent and child parking spaces and watch the bunfight?

I get this.

After almost two full years of no self harm I've done it three times in the last month which is really disappointing..

I find that just getting out the house and walking round the block works. Stick in some headphones. Go make a snack. Do something normal.

I was surprised at how much less stressed or whatever it was I was feeling I felt in the immediacy afterwards but hated myself the next day

You can do it

Well I resisted the urge which I am relieved about as I know I would be regretting it now if I had done it.

Sometimes I get the urge so bad and I don't know how to distract myself.
