Hey ladies. I'm new to this chat so I will try to keep it short. I recently tried to come off my antidepressants to try for another baby, BAD IDEA! My anxiety has rocketed. I can distract myself during the day but the nights are terrible. I've had no sleep at all. The doctor today prescribed me 5mg diazepam to take tonight to help me sleep. Does anyone have experience of using this? I'm very anxious about taking it but I have no choice.

Hi Stanley,

Sorry to hear about the return of your anxiety. I hope that you have managed to get some sleep. What is it about the diazepam that concerns you?

My husband occasionally takes diazepam, used to be about six times a year but other medication and life changes mean he hasn't taken it this year.

Great drug, fast acting. Yes of course everyone should treat it with respect as an addictive drug, but it is useful. Hope you took it and got a nights sleep.

Thank you for your messages. I got a bit more sleep. I was too scared to take the 5mg as I was scared about how it would make me feel, so I took half a tablet before bed and then the other half in the night when I woke.

How did it feel?

Do you have a) another dose for tonight b) another GP appointment? What other treatment or life changes have they suggested? Are you going back on the ADs.?

You don't have to answer any of these. Just wondered what the next step is.

I am glad you got some sleep. Keep talking to your doctor. For example, it may be that half a tablet is enough to give you a decent night's sleep, or it might become so, after you are more rested.

I know that diazepam is VERY addictive so be careful.
I too am suffering from anxirty, since reducing an antidepressant which is all withdrawal symptoms. To help me with sleep I've found that chamomile tea is good, and a bath in Epsom salts(contains Magnesium) with some lavender essential oil.
Nytol are also good.
