Am I "burnt out"

Evening.
I'm a nurse (had my NMC pin for three years) and I think I may be in the first stage of "burn out" but I'm not really sure.
For the last two weeks I've had a five day migraine, been sick nearly every day morning and night, waking in the night not seeping well, feeling exhausted, my paperwork has been shoddy at best when usually I'm known for my exceptional attention to detail, felt tearful and lost confidence in my role. I'm a palliative care nurse if that adds anything to my argument, was a DN before that. I LOVE my job, but we're going through a lot of changes at the moment, and I have Aspergers tendencies which mean generally I HATE change of environment and staffing etc.
I phoned dr on Friday (very unusual for me!) and he told to be off work for a week.
So here I am off work for a week, my DP knows and a few close friends but no one else. Feel a bit like a fraud. Cus I don't feel ill. Just a bit... Odd.
Don't even really know why I'm posting, think I just need to write it down...

Been there, worn the T shirt...
You probably need a lot more than a week off work. Head on over to the mental health forum. There is a lot of support from like minded people who have similar experiences.

Oh and you are not a fraud........

Hi there, we're moving this thread over to our Mental Health topic now - hopefully some wise MNers will be along soon to give the OP some more advice and support. Flowers

Yep, I'm 3 months on from horrendous burn out. Couldn't remember words , no sleep, feeling faint , migraines , confusion.
I had to take a break before I had a total breakdown.
Wishing you well Flowers

Definitely doesn't sound good. I've recently had three months off work too because of burn out. I saw the dr, was signed off and referred for some CBT. It has really helped and I now feel back to my old self again. Taking a step back was the only thing that helped me to get the headspace I needed to get well. Prior to that I tried (and failed) to 'de-stress' for 6 months.

I can totally relate to your paperwork slipping and losing confidence, it's not because you're suddenly bad at your job its because you're under stress. It's really positive that you can recognise that - it took me ages to do that!

Hello everyone.
I'm back again.
Had my first day off, was terrible, didn't do much, will try again tomorrow, need to think of things to do, can't seem to function without my routine.
Please help.

I started going for a daily walk and have now been out every day without fail. Along the sea front for me then I have graduated to running , now in 6th week of couch to 5k.
No music on to start with , just phone off, being silent , thinking and appreciating the walk. It helps with what I call 'the twitches'
Set your bedtime and wake up as well.

Im not sure I could run anywhere in a disgusting lump these days, but last night after a argument with DP I went for a walk with my iPod in, was lovely. Day two seemed better somehow, I didn't hide from the sun, but I still haven't told my family, in fact I've lied to them, I've told them in on AL this week. Blush
