Periods stopped and hair falling out

Has anyone had this because of depression? I've lost lots of hair and haven't had a period in more than a year. The GP has done blood tests for anaemia and thyroid, all normal, and says it's because of stress. I do feel very low and anxious. Does anyone have experience of this ? Will ADs help?

Did the doc suggest ADs? If so you could try them for a few weeks

Is there any other reason for your periods to stop? Do you eat well?

Gp said I can try ADs if I want to. Worried about side effects though and feel like a bit of a failure tbh, like I should be able to sort myself out without needing tablets. But if it makes me feel normal it'll be worth it.

I eat well I think. Normal bmi and I can usually find the energy to cook. I asked the gp about other causes but he seems sure it's stress related. It worries me because although I feel crap this seems drastic and I think I've been harming my body by not seeking help sooner.

I am not a medic, but I think you should try the ADs & see if things get better. You can maybe learn ways to de-stress while you are on them, so you can cope better throughout your life

Have you been going through stressful times recently? Perhaps it's simply your 'nature'? Even so, coping methods might help

Have you had any hormone blood tests done?
I was suffering hair loss and my period stopped for 24 months.
The GP did loads of tests (including thyroid and annemia) but it wasn't until I saw an endocrinologist that I had a blood test done for my hormone levels (some 16 months after I had originally bounced back and froward to my then GP).
The official diagnosis was polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS, effects 1 in 10 women apparently) which was causedby a dodgy Pituitary gland (PCOS can have different causes).
Depression is also common in PCOS sufferers.
Obviously might have nothing to do it at all, but may be worth investigating???

Sorry should have added that my Pituitary gland was pumping out way to much of certain hormones which shut down my cycle and was responsible for a whole host of other issues too.
