I'm just about to start on 20mg Fluoxetine.

Does it make any difference if they are taken morning or night?

How soon did you notice side effects (if any)?

I know they won't flick a magic switch, just want to give them the best chance of working.

If you are unsure, ask the pharmacist. If you are on any other medications it might be important to space them. Pharmacists are experts on drugs and treatments, so please ask them

I take my citalopram first thing in the morning. Not sure if this is recommended or not. But it's what I always did with sertraline (my old AD) which disturbed my sleep if I took it before bed.

I take my fluoextine at night as it makes me feel sick. On day 9 and hoping side effects will ease soon.

Well I took it about 10 ish last night before going to bed.

I didn't sleep until about 4, awake by 6, but I don't think this necessarily had anything to do with tablet.

I might try taking it a bit earlier tonight.

Thank you for your replies Flowers

It can cause insomnia (sometimes just in the first few weeks you take it...for others it can be longer term).

Try experimenting and see how you feel. I used to take it at night, but because of the sleep disturbance, I now take it after breakfast - seems to work for me.

I used to take fluoxetine in the morning as it made me more awake. When I was on sertraline, I had to take it in the evening as it made me fall asleep.

ADs are bloody awkward at times!

I've always taken 40mg fluxoten in the morning. I switched to nights for a bit as I was told it was better but morning works for me. When I was on steratine I took at night

Went to doc last night and been taken off the fluoxetine. The sickness, nausea, anxiety was just too much. My skin on my hands was starting to peel too. Doc said I'm very sensitive to the side effects. I'd done 9days on them and was getting worse. I don't want to put people off but to make you aware that if you're feeling truly awful go back to your doc- I had 6 days in bed before my dh practically had to carry me to doc - equipped with carrier bag inside handbag to be sick in!! I'd lost 4lb in a week. Doc sending me for cbt and been given Diazapam to get through next week or so. Didn't take fluoexetine last night and although still rough this morning at least I've not been sick. Doc says it could take 36hours to leave your system. Stick with them if you can but do see your doc for advise if you feel terrible.

When I was on fluoxetine I took it in the mornings. I now take venlafaxine in the mornings and lamotrigine morning and night

Didn't sleep at all last, not sure if it is the tablets or the fact my brain won't switch off.

If I change to taking them in the morning, can I just do if after taking one 10pm last night, or do I need to adjust the time by a couple of hours each day?

Flowers for your replies.

Orchid I hope you get sorted soon.

I take Mirtazapine at 7.30 pm, on the advice of GP, something to do with how it works, as I get up early, (6am) he suggested taking early evening, then I am ready and very sleepy at 9.30ish and not too sluggish in the mornings
