I am on 150mg of sertraline with the approval of my GP reduced back to 100mg.

The GP printed out the additional 50mg incase I needed them.

Well today I had to get the extra as I can not cope with the zaps and the withdrawal.

Is there hope.

A 50mg drop is quite big! Can you drop by 10 or 20mg at a time? Is there something else you can take to ease you through it? Might be worth popping back to the GP or even talking to a pharmacist.

(My experience is based on narcotic painkillers rather than anti depressants.)

I agree that is a big drop. Not sure what doses you can get but. I would try to cut the dose by the smallest amount possible - can you go to 140mg? Or 125? I am coming off Prozac (different I know as it stays in these system longer) and am down to 2.5mg from 40mg in January. Doing it slowly has worked for me. You can do it! Good luck.
