Another coming off citalopram!

I've been reducing citalopram very slowly for months now and it's going really well. My doctor told me a few weeks ago to just stop altogether at 10mg every other day. I ignored him Grin as when I did this I felt very dizzy and light headed and have just been cutting the tablets to reduce the dose further.

I'm now down to 2.5mg every other day. On that second morning before I have that little bit I feel light headed and a bit "whooshy" is the only way I can describe.

Should I just stop now and these feelings will pass? I should say emotionally I feel totally fine and very ready to come off, its just physical feelings.

Hi OP I just cut down gradually from 10 to 0 over four weeks and have been off them for 2 weeks now. I have had the whooshy head too which I don't mind, but have been quite irritable and mood swingy which has been worse - also for my poor DP! Am hoping all the symptoms settle down soon, although already better. Have also had restless sleep and weird dreams. Sounds like you are doing well you should be fine to stop now. Last year I did 20 down to 10 in 3 months then stayed on 10 for a year, didn't have the patience to go so slowly this time!

Anti histamines and Omega 369 can help with the brain zaps. I find a low dose of piriton to work for a few days after quitting ADs. Just a 2.5ml kids dose should help with the whooshing noises and not effect your normal everyday functioning.

That's interesting itisn'treallyreal because they are also used for motion sickness which is a bit how I felt, without the nausea, like I had been on a long journey or something. Feeling mainly okay now, just moody! Will give it a month or so and if still moody may go back onto ten but would rather not after all this effort!

Thanks for the advice! Well done Arcadia I hope you feel properly right soon too.

Itisntreallyreal I'm already on antihistamines for allergies but I take loratadine as piriton knocks me out. I don't know if the one I'm on should help too or if I can take that tiny bit of piriton with it? Is there a particular supplement I can get omega 369 in?

Hi OP
I have been weaning over about 4 months. Recently I dropped from 5mg every day 5mg every other day. This was too much for me and I experienced the symptoms you describe, plus being very irritable. I have decided to now take 5mg for 2 days and drop the dose on the 3rd. I'm improved so will stay on this for a month before trying again. Previous experience has shown the last few mgs to always be the hardest.

Holland and Barrett have loads of good supplements. If you look for my old posts about getting of Effexor you'll see a good list of things to try.

Not sure if you can mix anti histamines though.

Good luck.
