I have bipolar1 in my last episode friend was not the most supportive.

Friemd is struggling with depression now however friend refuses to take meds. Refuses to engage in therapy. He refuses to do anything to attempt to change things.

I am not unsympathetic I know how hard depression can be but I am just getting over a year and a half long psychotic episode switching between mania and depression. I just don't feel I have the emotional energy to give someone who won't help himself.

I feel like people including me are showing him the door but he won't walk through it.

So Aibu to stop giving so much support and focus on myself now?

No you are not. In most situations are would say that helping someone with depression is extremely important, but when you are mentally unwell yourself it is too much. I myself have tried to help someone in a similar situation when I was not well enough, and it made me worse.

He needs professional help and the help of his family/other friends.
