Phq9 scoring does it really matter?

So went to the gp who I have finally told everything too. She did not increase my ad but did give me some diazepam for the attacks I've been having. We both feel that once I have left my Dh my symptoms will improve.

She's referred me for counseling as I have finally accepted I need it, and that I want to leave him, I knew that counseling would result in this so had been putting it off.

On the form she's scored me at 12. I have googled it and done the test (she didn't ask me all the questions) and I have scored 22. Does it matter?

It sounds like no matter what the score she has referred you to counselling and given you a second medication - and diazepam is hard to get prescribed and only for short times - so you got some helpful treatments.

I've been treated for years for depression and anxiety and I can only recall one time the GP has done the official 'score' for anxiety or depression. I'm really not sure it is that useful of a tool because if you say you are depressed then most likely you are depressed.

Thanks both, do you think it makes a difference to how quickly you get seen?

I do not think so, no. It depends on waiting lists usually. Each area may be different.

Thanks, I know there is a bit of a waiting list so didn't want to get bumped any further down. Especially now I have actually come round to the idea.

I think when you have first contact with counselling service they can triage patients and decide what option best suits people: phone counselling ( good for those at work/with children,), one to one or small group sessions - if they have all these options. 1 to 1 has the longest waits.

I think waits are usually not too long - remember if you had a physical illness the maximum wait is 18 weeks to see a consultant ( have 18 week for my ds to see a consultant right now for a physical issue!!).
