Mental health

Dh thinks I'm going manic.

His reasons are:

I have been going out late at night and hanging round with friends.

My anti psychotics have not been putting me to sleep.

I decided to have a tattoo that covers my back.

I started using drugs again.

I have felt distant from dh.

I have arranged to have my hair dyed blonde even though there is a chance it will fall out.

I have started taking more care over my appearance.

But I feel good I don't feel manic. I have been psychotically depressed for a year and I think I just feel good to finally be free of it but dh thinks I'm still ill. What do you think?

I think he may be right unfortunately. Taking drugs will exacerbate any underlying MH problems, especially BP. I'm guessing the other things he mentions are excessive or out of character for you.

If you trust him, which I'm guessing you do, seek help ASAP. I don't know if you have a care plan but quite often people put listening to their partners concerns as an early relapse indicator, as looking back, their partners were usually right.

OP you have posted not long ago- do you have a care plan? If I remeber correctly, you aid taking drugs and behaving this way happens when you get unwell, is that right?

Thank you yes I have a care plan. I just don't want to believe I'm becoming I'll so soon. I have bipolar type scizoaffective so all the symptoms of bipolar 1 with episodes of scizophrenia.

I will contact my mental health team and see what they can do about this. Thank you.

I think when anti-psychotics start failing to help you sleep its a sign you need some help. I know this is the case with me anyway, I have bipolar.

sillymillyb · 11/08/2014 20:08

I am sorry, it sounds like he might be right - the drug taking and tattoo look like red flags.

I am glad you trust him and are getting help, I hope that things go well for you Flowers

What you're describing sounds quite worrying to me - definitely speak to someone professional. Hope you feel a bit calmer soon.

Imsuchamess · 12/08/2014 09:23

Thank you I will speak to the on duty officer and see if my olanzapine can be upped to 20 for a bit.

That's good I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. It's tough illness to live with, hope you're ok.

sillymillyb · 12/08/2014 18:43

Im glad you have spoken to someone - you should be really proud of yourself for getting help so early x

Imsuchamess · 13/08/2014 00:46

Thank you all I went out again tonight and I felt urges to do really reckless things. I think it's getting worse I have also started hearing things and seeing things. I hope the increase in meds helps.

I'm sure it will. Just hang into the fact you are able to spot the signs early and seek help. Do you do any treatment along side your medication?

Imsuchamess · 14/08/2014 16:12

Thank you I have had over a year of therapy in the past. But ATM it's just meds. I feel a little calmer after the increase unfortunately I already got the tattoo and dyed my hair. So I guess I'll have to live with it.

What colour is your hair? -mines purple. You could have done a lot worse, though. Are you Ok with the tattoo? Your hair can be fixed, don't worry. You did well to manage as you did. How are you now?

Imsuchamess · 14/08/2014 20:00

I bleach my hair it's very light blonde was brown. As for the tattoo I am ok as it's on my back I can cover if I want to but I had a bad reaction to one before and ended up in hospital so I'm just praying that doesn't happen again.

Glad you got some help op! Hopefully the extra Olanzapine will kick in, it took me to go to 25mg before I was stable, hopefully you will feel much better soon. How do you feel about your tattoo?

Imsuchamess · 16/08/2014 18:31

Not sure how I feel about the tattoo yet.
