Another coming off citalopram question!

I know these sorts of questions get asked quite a bit but would like some advice pls.

Been on 20 mg of citalopram since december. I feel a million times better and alot of things that were making me very anxious are now being dealt with.

My aim was too stop taking them when my ds starts school in September when I have a bit more time to deal with myself.

So I thought I'd drop down to 10 mg now and stay on that until I felt ready to come off. So I did alternate days for a week then 10mg everyday. Have been on 10mg for 4 days and I feel really lethargic and tired.

Have I gone too fast? Or should I stick with it? I suspect I really should have spoken to the doctor first

That's quite fast TBH. I did the 20/10 alternate for about 2 months. I would have a word with your GP, yes.

It took me two attempts to come off them and I think that was because the first time I was too impatient, and did it too fast.

I would go to the GP for some advice. I was on 20mg for around 6 months, reduced to 10mg for 1 month and then nothing - this was per GP prescription.

Thank you both I will make gp appointment on Monday. Now I think why did I start without talking to the doc first. I'm daft and being impatient as well!

I felt like that House, first time i thought 'I will just do this and get off them really quick' and I did. And 6 weeks later I was back on them. Sad

Good luck x

Thanks sparkling. Yes I can imagine that happening. I think if I rush it and don't practice any sort of stress management I will end up feeling like I did before, and I so don't want to go back there again.

It's only since I've felt better on these I realise how dreadful I felt for such a long time before. Plus I really want my ds to have the best possible few weeks before going off to school. Not me snappy and tired.

I'm only really impatient cos I've put on so much sodding weight!

Oh yes, the weight. Sad I was starting to feel down about that in the end, and that was a big reason for wanting to get off them.

Good news is the weight does come off. Smile

Am also coming off them. I have only been on them for 6 weeks go put me on them as I have insomnia since the menopause and anxiety.
They are not working and have decided to come off them. I am on 10mg and am going to take half a tablet for probably a week then a quarter for another week.
Side effects are awful aren't they

Hiya, newbie here, sorry to gate crash but need to 'talk'.
I've decided to come off citalopram as I've felt great for about a year (been on 20mg since having DS 2 20 months ago, was on 40mg after DS1)
So, since last Monday I've been cutting my tabs in 2 so I'm on 10mg. Had the usual withdrawal symptoms - the horrible brain electric shocks, headaches and all that. But - big but - I feel depressed again. Quite down really. Weird to feel this after so long :(
Can't get a docs appointment til a week tomorrow to ask what to do. Not sure whether to stick it out.
The worst thing is that time goes so slowly when I feel like this - every day feels like an eternity. 7 days til doctor...
