increase citalopram?

Hi, I started on 10Mg of citalopram 5 Weeks ago after my gp diagnosed depression. She then increased it to 20Mg a week later. About 3 Weeks in I felt just like my old self, I hadn't realised just how long I had been gradually becoming more depressed Sad i've had 2 Weeks of feeling amazing and my gp was really happy with my progress so prescribed 2 more months at 20mg before I need to go back to see her.

Except the last couple of days i've felt like i'm sinking again. I don't know whether its just a little blip, maybe its normal to have the odd few days that aren't so good?, but i'm terrified that i'm going to be back to square one again. I can't bear the thought of being like that again so i'm wondering whether it would be alright to just take 30mg until I can get another appointment with my doctor? Has anybody here done that?

Thanks milk, I don't really want to have to do it, but I'd rather that than go back to how I was. I'm going to give it another day or two, hopefully its just a blip.

Can you call/email your doctor? Upping meds without medical input is not a good idea.

I'm ok thanks, just lost it with dd this morning when she whined about putting roll-on on. She says she will rather stink and true friends won't mind...

I see that the dosage for Citalopram can go up to 40mg, so maybe your doc will up the dose.

Spoke to a doctor today and she agreed that I could take 30mg if I felt I needed to. Good job really because I already took 30Mg today before I could speak to her Blush

Don't worry, my psychiatrist told me that many people adjust their own meds. I've done it too! Hopefully the 30mg will make a positive difference for you.
